02 WRX Speaker Recommendations
What type of speakers would you recommend for replacing the stock F/R speakers? I'm looking for something that isn't to over priced (though I'll pay more for good quality) and something with a good sound quality. Also be able to have some bass if I decide to slam my ****! hehehe :banana: (not that I like too)
Also should I have seperate amps for my replacement speakers?

I'd go with component speakers like Alpine Type Rs or MB Quartz.
As for slamming the bass, you won't get as much from co-axial speakers. I'd get some decent subs. Right now i'm running 2 12" JLW6 with a rockford amp... let's just say if i wanted to i can set off alarms. ^_^
A seperate amp for the speakers will let you blast your sounds at a higher level than just running it off the head unit.

There is alot out there, what size are you looking to put in? The factories are only 4in and 4in aren't the greatest things in the world. Even if you get good ones. Alot of guys are putting in 6.5, which is what I would go with. Do a search you should find alot of info.

First of all, how much is your buget for this one.
I would check out Focal's, CDT's, Diamond Audio, Boston Acoustics.
I recomment to find a local shop where you can listen to different brands this way you will know the difference between them.
Find out how deep the speakers your purchasing, i think the max will be 2 3/4", with this size you need to add a 3/4" spacer between the speaker and door panel.
Most of high end components sound better if powered by an external amp but can be hooked up directly to your HU if your on a budget.
Amps: get a 4 channel amp to power your front stage and rear speakes. Around 50x4, 75x4 or 100x4 depending what speakers you get. If you will add a subwoofer you can always get another amp for it. The amp will need atleast an 8 gauge or 4 g power cable, the fuse will depend on how much the amp's amperage.

Last month I purchased Polk Audio dB6500 6.5" component speakers in the front and db525 5.25" coax speakers in the back. I picked them because have a high efficiency ratings so I could run them off my deck (Premier DEH-850MP) with about 22 watts per channel. I bought the Polks at Circuit City for about $230 for all four. They sound great for the price. I also used the adapter rings from www.iaperformance.com which made the installation easy to do. Total price was less than $300 for all four speakers.
