02 WRX Speaker Recommendations

What type of speakers would you recommend for replacing the stock F/R speakers? I'm looking for something that isn't to over priced (though I'll pay more for good quality) and something with a good sound quality. Also be able to have some bass if I decide to slam my ****! hehehe  (not that I like too)

Also should I have seperate amps for my replacement speakers?

There is alot out there, what size are you looking to put in? The factories are only 4in and 4in aren't the greatest things in the world. Even if you get good ones. Alot of guys are putting in 6.5, which is what I would go with. Do a search you should find alot of info.

First of all, how much is your buget for this one.

I would check out Focal's, CDT's, Diamond Audio, Boston Acoustics.

I recomment to find a local shop where you can listen to different brands this way you will know the difference between them.

Find out how deep the speakers your purchasing, i think the max will be 2 3/4", with this size you need to add a 3/4" spacer between the speaker and door panel.

Most of high end components sound better if powered by an external amp but can be hooked up directly to your HU if your on a budget.

Amps: get a 4 channel amp to power your front stage and rear speakes. Around 50x4, 75x4 or 100x4 depending what speakers you get. If you will add a subwoofer you can always get another amp for it. The amp will need atleast an 8 gauge or 4 g power cable, the fuse will depend on how much the amp's amperage.
