Give me the 411 on Spartenburg, SC
My hubby's company is moving to Spartenburg, SC and we want to know what the town is like.
We are moving from the Seattle metro area in Washington state.
So what kind of culture shock are getting ourselves into???
Thanks
Kim

Boy oh boy. You're in for quite a change. I actually grew up in the Tri-Cities and now I'm in Columbia, SC. About 1.5 hours south-east of Spart.
Forget seeing the horizon again. All you'll see is trees. It's hot. It's humid. Winter? What's that?
Don't get me wrong; it's a great place to live, but it's for sure not for everyone. It WILL be a culture shock. I've been here now, guess about 7 years. You'll be alright. Just make sure your A/C works REALLY well.
If you make it ok, come on down to Cola...

Um I have been to the Tri-Cities and the terrain and climate is DRASTICALLY different that in the Seattle Metro area. I orignally lived in Spokane for 25 years before moving west.
What you described is what I am living in right now. Summers are in the 90's plus humidity and there is no such thing as winter. We have Rain, Sun, Rain, and Sun.
Sounds like it won't be much of a climate change, but what are the people like????
Thanks
Kim

Oh yea. I've lived in Seattle as well, but in my opinion, it wasn't as bad as this.
But anyway the people are real nice. Some of the laws take a bit getting used to. Say, on Sunday, a business that sells goods or services (other than food) cannot be open before 1:30 in the afternoon.
If you are Baptist, you'll fit right in. As someone once told me, SC is the belt buckle of the bible belt. They aren't kidding either. Throw a rock and if you don't hit a tree first, you'll hit a Baptist church.
The sand/red clay takes some getting used to. I hate to drive in it, 'cause it gets all over everything and if left on long enough, can stain the paint. I avoid driving in it with the WRX as much as possible, but take my Pathfinder out in it all the time.
Does that sort of help? Not sure what exactly you're looking for but can keep adding more if you'd like.
When are you planning on being down this way?

Got ya. Yea, wasn't sure so didn't want to say "too" much or bash 'em too bad. But yea, it's a bit rough at times.
Consider yourself lucky that you're already married... try finding someone down here that doesn't want to haul your *** to church every 3 days...
Anyway. Hope things work out for ya the way you'd like 'em to.

I was in Greenville for a year and thought it was "interesting" seeing commercials for church on TV. Catches you off-guard the first couple times...
Cost of living should be much cheaper than Seattle, though, and the weather is pretty temperate (except for those humid 2 months).
Best of luck.
