Kind of an odd question, but is it actually legal to swap transmissions in the good ol' republic of California? I vaguely remember reading something about it somewheres. I don't want to get an auto to manual swap and then find out later that I cant pass smog.

 

it's legal.....transmission has nothing to do with passing smog.....not sure how hard it is to do the swap.......

 

I dont think it would matter. unless they know how to decode the subaru vin number and tell that it was originally an AT, I dont think they'd even know when you take it to get smogged. good luck wit the swap though

 

Wiring harness is going to be a biotch. If you have a donor car(MT) It's just a matter of transfering the Clutch assemble, Clutch master cylinder etc etc. Also get the ECU.
