teh GTA4 thread (grand theft auto)
the best thing to do if your having loading problems is just disconnect you Internet. Until loaded then you van turn it back on once you game has started. This worked for me.
I was having all kinds of problems loading the game the past few days. I tried different things to get it to work, but no go. when it was able to start, it froze up on me several times. so I went to Target and exchanged it for a new one. I'll see how things go tonight with the new game...

what worked for me was deleting old save file with the same name, i think that was the problem i was having. after a mission is done it would save then i would go f around then go back to his appt and save again then it would save with the same name causing the problem, i think. it hasn't froze up on on me yet.

I did that and it worked the first time. the next time it wouldnt load, I tried doing it again(deleting the latest saved mission with the same name) but it didnt work that time. I finally just gave up and exchanged the game for a new one. I'm hoping that maybe I got a bad copy of the game, and that its not my ps3...
thats what happened to me. it will sit on the loading screen forever without doing anything. I'll exit and try to load it again, but it does the same thing. even if I try and wait it out, same outcome.

I was on youtube yesterday and even saw vids of people showing their freezing problem..i messaged this guy and told him there was an investigation goin and supposedly he heard new info and told me this
"THE ISSUE HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED. Just got off the phone with T2 support. The issue that is causing the freezing is actually two separate issues. One is the network problem that the newer PS3's are encountering however the older model, launch units are experiencing an entirely different problem. The launch version of PS3's used a different chip that could run PS2 and PS1 games without emulation. This chip is conflicting with the game code and cause GTA4 to freeze. The T2 representative told me that the fix will indeed not be exclusively in the form of a patch. There will probably be a patch for the issues relating to the network and things that the newer PS3's are facing however.. the older launch 60GB versions and possibly the 20gb, i didn't ask, will require a firmware upgrade that will allow GTA4 to run on the older chip. This firmware upgrade, he said, could be available anytime between tomorrow morning and "as soon as possible" as he put it. The issue is definitely being addressed and it seems as though they have found what the problem is. So guys lets hope this works and spread this around because this came directly from my 25 minute conversation with T2 support that I just got finished with."
not sure if this is true but I hope so, and an update will be developed to fix this problem ASAP

I had a problem with GTA loading as well. It only happend a few times the first time around. The moment I would insert the CD I would say loading -shadow and it would stay like that for minutes on end. I quit game and then the system restarted instead of takingme back to the XMB menu.
So I had enough with it and I uninstaled the softwear. Then I reinstaled it and my loading issues went away.
