I love playing HQ and think that it certainly deserves an ongoing tactics thread to teach newcomers and maybe even some ole heads can learn a thing or two. Feel free to add your observations, tactics, and perks that you use. I'd love to hear more ideas and maybe even find some good people to play with.

If you're not having much success playing HQ then you aren't playing it correctly. HQ is NOT about seeing how many kills, air strikes or heli's you can get. Its about taking over multiple objectives as quickly and efficiently as possible. Kill when you have to and don't if you don't need to. It takes a very keen sense of situational awareness to be an effective part of a good team with this game.

i've played HQ more times that I care to remember or can count. Its pretty much all I play. And I'll say that the game spawns you in a very fair manner. Yes, if you lose one HQ and then have to destroy it. A few members of the opposite team will spawn fairly close to the new HQ. I think the game spawns the guy who died first or last closest to the new HQ. NOt quite sure about that but it does reward the one person who gets to and takes over an unclaimed HQ.

(i.e GET YOUR Freakin Butt to HQ and worry about killing someone when you get there and not on the way)

A good rule of thumb is if you can get to HQ without being seen or getting shot then do it. Especially if you are one of the closer guys to the HQ. I generally go into the HQ if I'm the first, second or third closest guy to it when it pops up on the radar. If I'm not one of the 3-4 closest guys then I try and flank the enemy. This works especially well with a ninja class (UAV Jam, silenced weapon) I've taken out 3-4 and sometimes 5 guys like this on a regular basis.

About halfway through the game the losing team will be given an opportunity to get back into the game by 2-3 team members spawning practically on top of a new HQ ready to be taken over. All you have to do is again......Get Your butt to HQ and worry about killing when you get there. The tides can literally change very quickly for the losing team. I've seen teams come back from losing 200-0 or 225-65 and win the game because of turning the tides. I've been on both sides of one of these comebacks and it happens about halfway thru the game.

There are a couple of very Key things that must be done to win at HQ. Once the HQ is taken, spread out and take defensive positions. Watch your radar! Do not pile into that location. It only takes one to two guys directly on/in HQ (with a mic) to take you that they are dead and the enemy is taking it over. Which means someone needs to go in blazing guns to continue holding the HQ.

Watch your radar, if you have a teammates at the HQ, no need to go in there. I think 2 people is the optimum number to secure the HQ fairly quickly though three is pretty much a sure thing. So if you see two or your m8s securing the HQ, get in there to help them if at all possible. Or... Secure the surrounding area or cover his/their ****. Don't go looking to kill someone, your team has secured the HQ. Hence, they will come to you. So find some cover and prime ur nades. Once you realize that the HQ will be taken over without a doubt because you see or know that 2 or more enemies have gotten to it. Its time for evasive action. Cease fire, withdraw, and double time it to the next HQ. Think about it...if you kill the 1-2 enemy guys that are taking over the HQ that you failed to hold, they will respawn. And chances are it will be closer to the new HQ than you are. Then you're pulling up the rear trying to get the the new HQ while the guys you just killed is probably already there waiting on you.

Then theres the scenario of the opposite team successfully defending their HQ for the 60sec (approx) time limit until reinforcements arrive. Use your best judgement here...every situation and location is different. But if you see there is no possible way for your team to take over the HQ and there's less than 20-30 seconds left..don't go for it. Especially if 4-5 of ur guys just died in there and will respawn on the other side of the map. Take a secure position along an expected exit route of the HQ. (one where you this the enemy might travel thru on the way to the next HQ) Wait for the new HQ to pop up, reposition closer to the new HQ if need be or take it over if its that close.

One last thing that I can think of right now is that once you see that your m8s are taking over a red HQ, the shooting has stopped, i.e the fire fight is over. Do Not chase tail and go in their just to take over the HQ or get one leftover kill if any. Let them take the HQ and you go the other way. Anticipate where the next HQ might be. Check your map (start button), figure the best route to the next HQ and double time it.

If you want to snipe, use overkill or know when its time to pick up another weapon and move in to take over an HQ. Better yet, just quit sniping. In others words, HQ is not the best game to practice your sniping; I'd appreciate your sniping on any other game type but this one. Maybe a team could use a well seasoned sniper on a map like overgrown or district, but thats about it. And with the new patch the new unconquered HQ seems to be spawning in a pretty fair location based on your team's spread pattern. I noticed that the HQ will spawn furthest away from your "camper" Not terribly sure about this yet but if your team has a sniper or some reluctant player chillin in the background for quite some time, chances are the HQ will not pop up between that "camper" and the rest of your team. The game seems to be placing the new HQ behind enemy lines thus leaving your team to fight thru them to even get to HQ. of course this varies with each map and situation. And I'm not crackin on "so called" campers either. But be wary of stretching out your team. In other words...most times you need to be able to put eyes on the HQ location, an enemy that threatens the HQ your team is holding (sometimes I even let an enemy pass me buy because I know his team can't take over the HQ and him running towards it will put him out of position for the next HQ) or a choke point that leads to the HQ.

Also, if you're carrying a LMG...use it for cover and suppressive fire. I can't tell you how many times the right person using a LMG correctly has saved a team because they kept an enemy from getting to the HQ quickly. Or laid down cover for team mates to advance instead of just running along beside them and everyone getting shot. A good lmg on the enemy's route to the HQ can win a game or turn the tide. I also like to carry a smoke grenade with my lmg which is good for concealing my exact location, confusing the enemy along with short bursts of suppressive fire, and smoke can also protect your flank for a short time. Not many people will run through smoke when they hear the sound of a machine gun nearby.

My favorite weapon and setup is the M4, extreme conditioning, stopping power and claymores. I use this almost always with starting out with players and I don't know their play style yet. The M4 gives me decent cqb, short, and medium range firepower to use to get my **** to the HQ and take out one or two enemies that get there at the same time as me. Extreme conditioning I think is a must for at least half to 3/4 of the team. This leaves LMG support and long range weapons (m203, m14, g3, etc.) LOVE my claymores!!! Once I get to HQ, there's nothing like getting a couple more kills on guys thinking their getting ready to secure the HQ first. hehe Claymores can cover your butt while you wait and cover your advancing (hopefully) teammates. If positioned correctly you can take out 2-3 guys coming through the most likely entrance to that particular HQ entrance. Its a wonderful feeling to kill 3,4 or 5 enemies and take over the HQ all by yourself. This is certainly a time when you would hear me beating on my chest through my mic!!!

If I notice that my team is doing a good to decent job of getting to and securing the HQ, I'll switch to my LMG. (anyone will do;work on your challenges) Used correctly, the LMG can increase your teams chances of holding the HQ for even more points. As well as clearing out one that needs to be taken over. I'd suggest Stopping Power and Deep Impact to shoot through most everything and kill. Need I say more?

Then there are times when my team is doing "just ok" or my m8s seem the be all going the exact same route to the HQ everytime. It might be a close match where both teams have scores above 150 and below 200. I might try using my Ninja class. (silenced weapon of choice, UAV jammer, extreme conditioning, along with a stun or flash.) Here i will try and flank the attacking enemy and try to take or 2 or 3 guys to help my team secure or defend the HQ. Situational awareness is key here as well. Taking the wrong route to flank your enemy can screw your team just as much as if you had died with all the rest of them. This potentially leaves your team short of firepower on the "front lines". So If you do decide to flank, make haste and use extreme conditioning. Sometimes I do chose to use Stopping power, Extreme conditioning and a Silenced weapon. You can get away without using the UAV sometimes because the enemy sometimes won't be watching it too carefully when engaged in good firefight. This will give you a good opportunity to sneak up on a few of them and take them out using minimum ammo.

I'd have to say that before trying to "Ninja flank" the enemy, snipe, or post up with the bandoliered LMG find out what weapons your teammates are carrying, how they are using them, most importantly....Is anyone getting to the HQ. If you don't take it upon yourself to make sure 2-3 guys are advancing to the HQ, then these tactics will not be nearly as effective.

I'll close with

^^^^^ i dunno. maps like district, countdown, and crossfire you can pretty much predict where the next HQ spawns. i guess it is more true for the bigger maps or maps with a lot of HQ Spawn points. knowing when to capture, camp or abandon for the next HQ is important, especially if you're on the losing team. either way, if you're on a team with good players and all 6 communicating, you shouldn't have a problem winning.

DARPA Wants Contact Lenses to Turn Real-Life Combat Into Call of Duty 4

The problem with cool strap-on heads-up displays a few lucky soldiers get to use on the battlefield today is that they're bulky affairs that make them look like half-assed cyborgs. Plus, the interface is limited. The Pentagon wants to develop contact lenses that'll put "first-person-hooter-type video game" graphics on top the soldiers' vision. Yes, they want to make real-life combat the realest Halo match ever.

Specifically, they're looking for "information on technology areas for the creation of micro- and nano-scale display technologies for the purpose of creating displays that could be worn as transparent contact lenses." And they want it now. Okay, like three to five years, but that's practically immediate for the Pentagon. Right in time for Halo 5.

the game itself is so fun but I think the online play needs a little more work.. There is no lobby like cod4 where you can meet up your friends. Plus it takes about 15+mins to find a game that both me and ernest can get it. But thats only for big games. If we were just to play terriost hunt, there no prob.
