Startin new with subaru... need help... please!
I just bought a 96 Subaru Impreza coupe just a little while ago. I had been wanting to tune another car, but when this one came up I jumped on it. Ihave been wanting a subaru for a while but now I have a problem. Cause I had been used to Toyotas and other imports, and now trying to find performance parts and such has been a bit of a hassle.
What I really want to do is build an all round racer. Mostly track, drag and to be able to hold my own in rally. I know that engines are tuned somewhat differently for them all and thus is my dilemma.
I've been looking for a shop that does work mostly on subarus, but cant find one. Does anyone know a place in the LA/ Orange county area? I appreciate any help on the net, but in person to explain it is a better thing. I'm more of a hands on learner...
I was thinking about switchin out the EJ18 to a EJ20T, but I've read from here that unless the ECU and harness comes together, then I'll have to splice it all together... besides trying to find the transplant car, is there somewhere I can get the ecu and harness separate, just in case i cant find one. Hows the idea anyway? a 18 for a 20T? good? bad?
If I was going the transplant route, I know a stronger clutch would be in order, but which one?... though there arent that many (unless ive been looking in the wrong places) there are enough that its hard to choose.
The same with exhaust and intake and suspension and everything else.
I need ideas... i've got some of my own... just dont know if they are applicable or practical or just plan dumb... haha...
and is there like a subaru superstore that has performance parts from everyone, or is just jumping from site to site the best way to go about it?
Thanks so much for helping me out here...
Ill post some pics up soon...

ACT clutches are generally pretty good. They're pretty reputable, although I'm not sure they make a standard disc style clutch that would be good for street use. If you're not really going to use it on the street then I know for sure they have 4/6 puck clutches. Might want to beef up your tranny too, though.
