So Cal'ers I need advice on some of your neighborhoods
Might be applying for a position up there and the place is in:
Camarillo, CA
Now here's my questions:
1. How far is it driving wise to where you all meet up and where all the fun stuff in L.A. is? (Driving Time and Mileage I guess)
2. Is Camarillo a nice place to live? Can I find fairly affordable housing there? Should I commute from L.A.?
3. How bad are taxes in CA? Specifically income tax...say I get about 20% of my income taken out here in HI how much approximately do I get taken out in CA?
4. I have allergies so is Camarillo affected by the smog ya'll have?
The cool thing is that the job pays like double what I make here and is a step up in the corporate ladder for my line of work. Just trying to get a sense for the quality of living thing up there.

Closest meet to you is probably the SFV meet. Go to nasioc and find out info. Those guys are pretty nice. Arnie and Matt are cool. They're always at that meet. ^_^ Welcome to south central.

1. The San Fernando valley is about 18 min south of Camarillo, about 20 miles. 30 min to Hollywood Los Angeles.
2. Camarillo is a awsome place to live as far a safe and clean. I used to live there for a few years, I grew up in thousand oaks right over the hill from it and I still think there is no better place, just far enough from LA no to have the ghettoness or traffic.
You CAN find affordable housing mostly in the san fernando valley (where I live) and just make the commute either north, like me. or south toward LA. basically if you moved into the SFV no where is going to be more than a 45 min drive without traffic.
3. as Far as the income tax im not really sure, I do know that its now that bad in the scheme of things. sales tax is 8.25% about the middle of the pack for america. we do have some of the highest gas prices in the country though :[.
4. the best part about camarillo is that it is right next to the ocean with no hills or anything to hold in smog. it gets misty every night and is PERFECT turbo weather.
as far as 'cold', well 'cold' here is 40 degrees and that only happends a few times a year its normally winter is 50-low 60's not bad at all.
The very best part about this area is the canyon's about 10 min from camirillo and the SFV you can be at some of the worlds best canyon runs. I took the night shift at my job so I can run them every night. in my opinion, ANd I have been almost everywhere in the world, I like this place the best.
hope it helps.
