RPOD: Can mankind ever split the Earth in half? 4/4/2006

Random Poll of the Day:

Can mankind ever split the Earth in half?
Can mankind / human beings ever drill a hole all the way to the opposite pole of the Earth?

Do you think mankind will ever be able to achieve such power?

Last but not least, if a hole was drilled through the Earth successfully and if one jumps into the hole, what will the nature of gravitational force do to that one being?

I was seriously thinking about that while going through traffic this morning. I forgot how I got there or what my train of thought was. But I'm confident that almost everyone have thought of that.

Let's just focus on the gravitational force, regardless of the magna that is being contained inside of the Earth. You may start a subject on magma.

Actually, this whole idea came to my mind when I think to myself. I'm going to Japan. It takes approximately 11 hours from Los Angeles to Narita. How can there be a shorter way. Making the travelling time shorter. Concord planes have ended there business several years ago (correct me if I'm wrong). Now what if we drill a hole and use it as a super highway?

Now about the magma thing, Eddie. If one can drill a hole through the earth at the longest length possible, we know that one can survive through magma.

yes.. we can get get pass the whole MAGMA. I'm sure the shorter way of travel would be possible for super highway or high speed train system to travel through the center of the earth to shorten travel time. or maybe don't even have to be through the center.. but the straightest line path to any destination.

Magma - Naturally occurring molten or paritally molten rock material, generated within the Earth.
Magna: Paint in the form of pigment ground in an acrylic resin with solvents and plasticizer.

the one time this happens they cancel the concord, i think 1 plane incident isnt too shabby when planes crash on avg 1 a year.

yes, i agree if you can drill from end to end you will survive. now the question would be since magna is molten you need a way to maintain the "hole" almost like a tunnel. the problem would be how thick the tunnel would be to be structurally sound and to resist pressures/ extreme heat
