Rear Glass Shattered for No Apparent Reason??!
So I shut my trunk the other night and BAM! Rear glass is toast! I didn't ever notice any signs of damage, or chips that might have weakened it. It was all held together perfectly by the tint (just looked like a glass jigsaw puzzle with 1/4" pieces) and I looked very closely around all the edges, to see if maybe someone messed with it previously or something, but NO SIGN of any reason for it to break!
I took it to South Coast Subaru, and they were really cool, and everyone there was in shock and hoping it would be covered for me... But alas, they couldn't get approval to repair it under warranty. The glass held together all the way there until I went up the driveway, and it started falling in... so there was no way to prove there wasn't an impact at some point along the collapsed area... Tony over there I'm sure did his best, but SOA said no. At least I hope so. So anyway, no animosity towards anyone at South Coast, but I just wanted to vent a little about how broken glass sucks. At least my insurance is covering most of the cost (rear glass is $500+, btw!), and it's being repaired this afternoon...
So this maybe should have gone in General, so move it if necessary, but I figured nobody would care except SoCal-ians, so I posted it here.

Yeah I work with warranties sometimes, and sometimes you just can't approve certain things, so I'm not gonna get in a ***** fest with anyone over it, but I'm a little tweaked that Subaru wouldn't just take me at my word and replace it... I'm sure the possibility exists that something hit it before and maybe there was a hairline crack I never noticed or something, but to shut your trunk and see that happen is quite a shock. I was just like, "uhhhhhhhh.... WTF!?"
I will say that I'm not 100% certain my next vehicle will be another Impreza, but if I do go with a Subaru again, I'm definitely going to South Coast Subaru just for how cool everyone was last night when I dropped it off. They totally parked my car in a secure area, and let me chill there while I waited for a friend to pick me up, brought me some coffee, etc. They were real cool.

Maybe there decision was based off of a budget? Subaru bit the bullet when the WRX first came out because of the whole clutch shudder incident which affected almost every Subaru.
Then lets not forget the stories of "I raced my WRX and when I shifted into 3rd the car overboosted because of my boost controller."

I think I'm going to invest in a rear strut-tower bar just in case chassis flex had anything to do with weakening it... I'm no racer, but I do corner with authority at times... a suspension guru at my work suggested it. I guess he's seen that happen. Plus, it will stiffen things up and provide a more positive road feel. I notice a rear-only strut tower bar is recommended by Cobb for the 04-05 chassis.
