A write up from Phil:
The inaugural Formula RallyX (FRX) event at Glen Helen turned out to be a very unusual one - the first rainy rallyx that SoCal has seen for a number of years. The conditions, especially in the morning, were appalling - driving rain and a slippery mudbath for a course; not the ideal conditions for the 2WD street tire classes that had to run during that time! With four runs per driver (two each way), nobody got stuck (although a few came close on the uphill slope) and we even had the unusual sight of a Lexus taking to the mud. All the 4WD classes ran together as daylight was fast running out, and with the course drying it was possible to get everyone their allotted runs before dusk.
Despite (or possibly because of?) the weather, there was a strong turnout and a lot of new faces, which was great to see. Mike's technical, varied course received plenty of compliments, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The weather caused some issues with supplying the results immediately, but the superb 'behind the scenes' team was keeping track and they're available at http://www.formularallyx.com/
So the Formula RallyX series is off to a spectacular start. The next CRS rallyx event is at Ridgecrest on Sunday March 4, and the next FRX event is Glen Helen 2 on Sunday April 4.
