With a name like Turboman, I expected more

VF34 is ballbearing... It's the VF30 that is not.

Ver3 STi had the biggest turbo in GC8, same one as 22B
It was laggy and punchy turbo, i like that.
later ones are more natural taste.

I think Ver3 was VF23 but the one on Ver3STi was different form regular WRX so I don't know if it's VF23 or not for sure.

VF30 and VF34 are probably better turbo because they are a lot newer than VF23 but still I like punchyness

thanks
ball bearing has ball bearings around the shaft, allows for it to spinn with less friction...

a non ball bearing turbo has bushings which have much more friction, thus a slower spool time...

hope that helps

Although a non-ballbearing turbo lasts longer.... Bushings are more durable. Just think volvo's, and diesel trucks... All bushing type turbo's.

well powerband-wise, vf30 and vf34 are identical despite the ball-bearings in the vf34, says Shiv w/ his plethora of dynos. so, considering you can get a vf30 for under $700 shipped, you cant beat that deal... UNLESS, you want a VF22, which is more laggy, but makes up for it in top end & even cheaper price! (i dunno how much, but check with turbometrics or whatever his name is in the vender forums) whats cool about ball bearing turbos, though, is that when you turn off the engine the turbo keeps spinning cuz of the ball bearings. no performance value but its cool!

i'd probably just get the VF22 cuz its usually the cheapest... and more power is always fun.
