Huntinton Beach/ OC
Hey everyone. I'm currently living on the Central Coast and I'd like to get down where there's some stuff to do and some better opportunities. I was thinking about Huntinton Beach but to be honest I've never even been to Orange County at all. Where should I look. Suggestions on jobs and housing would be great. Also if there's anything goin' on down there this weekend I'd love to go, i'll probably be down there this weekend checkin things out.
Depends on what you are looking for. General rule of thumb on housing, South County is primarily yuppie-ville. North County is pretty diverse and a lot of cities has a few nice communities here or there. As far as a job goes, it also depends on what you are looking for.

can anyone recommend specific cities which they know are affordable? I've been trying to find places online but I don't konw what cities there are down there. All the maps I find are all fairly confusing too. Maybe I'm stupid but hey, that's the way it is. Besides I know it's always best to talk to someone who lives there. Are these Life Plaza Meets weekly? Is there one this weekend? and where would I go to get there?

ok, OC is not cheap to live in... its probably the highest priced area for housing, last year, one would need (on average) 2.5 jobs to live in a single bedroom apartment.
i dunno what "opportunities" you expect to find here, but there isnt exactly a thriving job market in OC. All the jobs are basically in the LA area. i forget the exact statistic but i know most of the people who live in the overpriced OC, drive to LA or further for work everyday in HEAVY traffic.
anyways, HB is a nice place to live, but its not worth it really. for the price of a small crowded apartment here, you can have a very nice place elsewhere.
Then again, if you are well off, this isnt a major concern to you. But for poor college students, it is.

PS. There's a meet in HB this Friday night, 8pm, Denny's on Edinger, between Beach & Gothard.

Well I'm not too worried about where I live down there but I'd like to get out of where I'm at now. There are more opportunities there for sure. The closest thing to me now is San Luis Obispo and they only have 40,000 people and they're trying hard not to get any bigger. I don't really care too much which city I live in as long as I can afford it. I think I should be looking for rooms for rent rather than apartments though. BTW I'll be down that way on saturday and stay the night there probably. Anything then?

i used to go to CSU Fullerton... hated it! i even partied, got drunk all the time, and hooked up with many hot girls and some not so hot, lol. (I was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity) Even with all the fun, I just couldnt enjoy school.
well, down here there's lots of expansion, thats for sure. there are decently priced places to live, but there are worries like crime, distance from work, etc. to worry about. as far as meets on saturday or sunday in HB... not that i know of.

And typically speaking, SoCal beach areas are on the higher end of budget keeping. But get lucky (or spend a decent amount of time searching and scouting), and you can find an affordable apartment 10-15 minutes from the beach (Newport, Huntington, Long Beach) - but watch out, many dwellings near to the beach that are up for rent in the winter time for a great deal don't have heaters and it gets pretty cold.
Some other areas more central: Tustin and Irvine are fairly new cities with very structured communities. You'd have to visit them to know what I mean. Santa Ana and Costa Mesa.. good location, kinda. You're in the middle of Orange County, and likely won't have to travel more than a half hour to go to the extreme north or south of OC, but some parts of those cities aren't too great. Anaheim's the same way, but more north-central. Orange is decent.
North county? Yorba Linda, Anaheim Hills, Placentia. Plus: I live here. Minus: It kind of sucks. Somewhat yuppie attitudes, and kind of a boring place to live. You end up driving south a lot. Or at least, I do.
Anyway, hope that helps some and good luck.
