Help.

Can anyone help me diagnose this problem?

If I tap the gas it goes away for a bit.

not familiar with the boxer layout, but on an inline 4 white smoke usually signifies that you're burning coolant. Usually caused by the headgasket not giving a proper seal.

white smoke = coolant
black/blue ish smoke = oil

or i could be wrong all together *shrugs*

Thats what I've heard too. The weird thing is that there is no water consumption (in the reservior) or any signs of oil in there either.

try seafoaming the car. if you get smoke coming from the engine bay then there's a gasket that went bad.

I did the towel on the tail pipe thing and I didn't get any thing. Left it there for a while too.

Summary...

-White smoke while idling but not while driving.

-No Coolant consumption.

-No oil in the reservior tank.

-If I tap the gas it goes away.

-No signs of any leaks anywhere. Used a light colored rug under the car.

I'm going to pull the plugs and IC as soon as I get a chance to see how it looks.

I know i'm burning oil for a fact now. I took off a peice of my exhaust and it had a thin layer of oil. What should I do? Is there any other way of knowing if I have a blown head gasket besides the oil in the reservior?

Plus, how many miles do you have on your car?

Try a thicker oil too. I'm a strong believer in 5-40 or 5-50 for our boxer/turbo engines.

That stress crack and hole on your timing belt cover ain't looking to sharp either.

Be carefull with that especially with your plastic camgears
