Question EGT Gauge

I'm pretty new to all this but... I just got the Greddy peak hold boost and EGT gauges and was wondering where the best place to put the sensor for the EGT is and what temperature to tune for? My friend has a DSM and for him it's 4-6 inches from the number 1 cylinder and 900 centigrade. I have the HKS uppipe and downpipe and someone told me either one is fine, but then what temp do I shoot. Can anyone shed light on this?

number 3 cly should do, as close as you can get it. it is a tight fit there but do your best, and it will be fine. mine is about 4-5 inches away from #3 maybe closer. i would post a picture but thanks to my computer i can't. FYI #3 is most likely to go lean. good luck, p.m. me if you need help. THOMAS
