Nope same place, Same people.

I've never heard the story about broken lug nuts yet, thats a new one. Can you tell me more about it?

But I've never had one bad experience with Vic at Discount Tires El Monte, been going there for years.

Everyone always screams about how Vic is a dick or an *******, but he does give great deals, hands down. So your trading in Customer Service for low prices, just like making your car fast, trading reliability for performance.

I guess I can understand about some people have some heat towards them. No one is perfect. About the broken lug nuts, this would usually happen if the lugs were x-threaded, so it would seem that the place or person who put them on in the first place is the one who ****ed up not Discount tires.

Life,

I was gonna just let this rest, since I have posted about it a BUNCH of times in the past (out of my frustration & to warn others), but DISCOUNT TIRES EL Monte ***WAS ABSOLUTELY RESPONSIBLE*** for damaging my car & wheels. AND, they were the ones that installed the lugs before that resulted in the crossthreading (more likely overtorquing w/their impact gun). The techs & VIC admitted to using the gun and "only torquing to 85lbs!?"

What make the situation even worse was VIC's non-chalant attitude about the damage.....(about gouging my VOLK wheels) "No big deal, we can just touch it up." VOLKS are not ROTAS!! Check that, even if I had ROTAS or even stock wheels, there's no justification for damaging them.

Oh yeah, as someone mentioned above, VIC made me hunt down the new wheel studs (to fix broken/stripped studs & lugnut problem THEY created). I had to drive (w/a missing lugnut on each wheel) 45min EACH WAY in Fri traffic to RENICK SUBARU to pick up the studs myself! That's some great service, eh?

Btw, I won't go into how the "mechanics" damaged my 2 day old GReddy front lip.

Anyways, originally, I didn't want to jump in or hijack this thread, since you seem to have received good service from VIC in the past. However, to be honest, there are just too many horror stories about DISCOUNT TIRE-El Monte and VIC to ignore. Yes, almost every shop has off/bad days, but some way more than others, as in this case. Those are the shops I have learned to avoid and steer others clear of.

But what it comes down to is..."Your (not directed at you, Life) car, your $$$ and decision." I care too much about my ride and getting professional and courteous customer service and having work performed correctly to risk taking it to shops that will hack things up.

Regards,

CL

go go go,

Sorry to hear that DTT-El Monte & VIC messed up your nice wagon gave your poor service too. I don't think I heard you mention anything about it in the thread about my bad experience & other members' a while ago. I guess that just adds one to the list!

Well, I hate to do this, but since TSR asked & I don't want any others & their cars to get screwed over by DTT-El Monte & VIC, here goes. This is the link to my thread, which incl comments from other members about their problems w/the shop & VIC.

Hey CL,

...So WHO would YOU recommend CL? Where do you go now? I'm interested in hearing about the horror stories with Discount Tire, well, other stories anyways. But dang. I wouldn't want my rims, whether stock or rota or volk, like CL said, to be messed up. Well, I'm open to recommendations. Is it good to at least buy rims there? Thanks CL for lookin' out for people.
TSR,

I personally have not dealt w/any other tire shops in SoCal. I moved up to N. Cal in July after living in LA for 5 years. Actually, I did go to America's Tire Company in Azusa for some cheapie tires for my old Integra and received good service & prices. In fact, I took my g-friend's 98 Accord Coupe for an alignment & my sis' 94 Integra for tires there too...good service & prices then too. HOWEVER, they don't really deal w/"high end" wheels. They do have some ALT's, RH EVO's (lower line Racing Harts), and some other wheels. If you just want tires for stock wheels or wheels that you don't really care about, I'd say they're okay. I just don't wholeheartedly recommend them, because I haven't had personal experience w/more expensive products there.

Friends of mine have gone to DAZZ Motorsports--only do wholesale or mounting/installation for friends now. Spreewell Racing in San Gabriel (DAZZ's old location) does pretty good work but is kinda pricey, since they mostly cater to high end/luxury vehicles, like Benzes, BMW's, Lamborghinis, etc. They do have wheels for compacts/imports, but not much variety. D2Tecknik in Alhambra (on Main St. past Target & Costco) does good work too. Some of my "baller" buddies go there for their BMW, Audi, & Benz goodies. They do have VOLK & a few other wheels for imports/compacts and WILL MATCH OR BEAT DTT--El Monte/VIC's prices...BEST OF ALL, YOU'LL GET BETTER SERVICE!!

For other shop recommendations, you might want to ask some of the SoCal veterans, like G-Force and Karazyman.

Hope this helps,

CL

btw, posted the link to the thread w/my DTT-El Monte/VIC "horror story" & other members', since you were interested in hearing about them.

seriously, though...check your owners manual. i'm pretty sure they give the recommended jack points. there is a spot where the front door pillar is that is very strong, that might be a jack point. i don't know. just start jacking the car up and if something starts caving in, try another location. it can be like a game!

note: i am not responsible for any damage done to your car.

have fun!!!!
I remember for a while Vic was saying he was not going to work on Subaru's for a while after this incident.
