Cylinder Head Removal

Does anyone know if the motor must be pulled to remove the cylinder heads on an ej20 '02 WRX? Anyone on i-club had to pull their cylinder heads yet? Thanks!

Good question.

I have taken the cams out of the car with the engine in place and it was a pain in the ***. You could take the heads off, I think, but it is very hard and you will waste a lot of time. It will be easier and faster doing it after you pull the motor out.

Its like doing sparkplugs with one hand and blind folded. You can do it, but why make it more difficult for yourself.
