Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Question anyone have Unifilter Rampod with egt or a/f gauge?

I have read all of the threads saying an intake is a waste of $ but I bought a Unifilter Rampod before I knew this. I have since taken it out and replaced it with the factory air box but now I miss the noise. I was hopeing to hear from someone that has this intake coupled with an egt and or a/f gauge. If it doesnt cause high egt readings or a lean a/f ratio I think I will put it back in. Also if you do have an egt gauge it would be nice to know where you are taking the readings from (Manifold near what cylinder or before or after the turbo). Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the best place is at the manifold near cylinder 3.

Thanks.

Most cockpit-mounted air/fuel ratio gauges won't be helpful in showing effects of your rampod on the MAF sensor readings. Tuning shops use wideband 0² sensors. See links in this post for further reading on MAF and aftermarket intakes.

Now that a/f gauge is out the window how about an egt gauge? If you are not getting high egt's wouldnt that tell you the car is not running lean and if it wasnt running lean wouldnt that mean that your intake wasnt causeing a problem with the maf sensor? The Unifilter only replaces the airbox and retains all of the factory piping so the diamiter of the pipe where the maf is mounted doesnt change. They claim that depending on design of factory box it will improve the accuracy of the maf sensor since it swirls the air and decreases vacume behind the filter surface (I dont understand how swirling air will help). I know you cant beleive everything you read but isnt it possible that this intake may not cause a problem with the maf sensor? Im not saying I know that this intake wont cause a problem because of what I read on there site but I also cant say that it will since I havent seen any example with this intake. I appreciate the info that you gave me it was very informative but I have read most of that already and now I am looking for info on this particular intake. chances are that this intake is no different than all of the others when it comes to maf sensor but I would like to hear that bov again as long as Im not compromiseing reliability or power and who knows after sealing the box from the engine compartment I may not hear it anyway. Here is a link that shows this intake and what they claim http://www.uniflow.com.au/rampod03.asp.

Thanks for the reply.

If no one has the data you're looking for, have you considered seeking out a local tuner with an AWD chassis dyno and a wideband 0² sensor? It would only take a few pulls to graph the air/fuel ratio comparing the rampod with the factory stock airbox.

Yes, it's entirely possible that the rampod does not interfere with the MAF readings. I am a little skeptical about their claims of improving performance by 'swirling' the intake air but the fact that it doesn't utilize a change to the intake air path near the MAF may bolster their claims. I don't know - never seen independent tests on this intake.

Yes Axis power is near by and I was planning on doing that but I just thought I would see if anyone had any experience with this intake here at I-club since Info here is free.

Thanks

does your car have any other mods? if you're stock except for that, you're probably ok to run it. If you have a really aggressive reflash or other engine management, you should ditch the intake.

The only other engine mod I have right now is a Blitz nur-spec cat back (grapefruit shooter). I am waiting on my accessport so I can run stage 1 untill I can afford the down pipe and that may be a while since Im doing breaks next.

once you go with the accessport you should ditch the intake unless cobb has a map tuned for it specifically.

I did exactly the same thing you did. Luckily i bought mine used so i'm only out about $50. I still have mine though. I have the Cobb stage 2 reflash, so i put the stocker back on. I do miss that wild sound though. I noticed the other day that Cobb now has maps for Injen brand intakes. I am thinking of calling them and seeing if i send them my unifilter they can put it on a car and make a map for it. I don't know if they wil charge for this or even do it. It's worth a try though. Good luck. I am sure you'll love the stage 1 and you'll be itching for stage 2.

Thanks for the reply. If Cobb will make a map for your intake Im sure they will charge you for the dyno time. If you are serious about sending it in maybee we could get some people to chip in and have it done.
