Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Good results with turbo port/polish?

I have been considering sending my turbo to Deadbolt, and I was wondering if it is really worth the money. What is your guys' opinion? I mean, I know that a VF30 (for example) is effective; Im just not sure yet how much can be gained from a port/polish...

I wouldn't trade my deadbolt P&P TD04(7*clip) for a stock TD04...no way
If I HAD, for some reason, to keep the stock TD04 turbo, it would be the Deadbolt P&P with a 7* clip. My car stays pretty close to a friends very similarly modded WRX on which I installed a VF34 and STi injectors to finish the 'Stage 4' on.
My car feels like it has a small N/A V-8 under the hood, and it builds and holds boost much better than stock. Very little lag if any, ever, unless you get real deep into the 'hole', and then a quick downshift and Zoom....
I think a few of the local 'NASCAR' boyz are scratching their heads wondering just what the hell kinda kar just evaporated down the road in front of them....

Go to NASIOC's 2.0 liter turbo forum. Go to the bottom of that opening page and search for 'deadbolt'. He is a Vendor at NASIOC and customer service is pretty good. I haven't read all of the threads but people in general seem pretty happy with the performance vs money spent. Might be one of the better mods for a mildly modified rex.

the TD04 is the stock WRX turbo. i've got a deadbolt p&p TD04 with no clip, and the thing is sweet. boost comes on super early compared to stock, and is seamless. its so smooth, and spools very quickly.

deadbolt with p&p pretty much any turbo. i thought about buying a VF24 to have him work over, but eventually decided against it. while a p&p from deadbolt won't make a VF22 spool like a VF30 or VF34, it should help quite a bit. Jerry from deadbolt is a really helful guy, and should be able to answer all of your questions if you call or shoot him an email.

I've got a VF34

that has the Deadbolt port/polish. I'm waiting on engine management so I can't rant and rave just yet. Jerry was great to deal with. He even cut me a deal on shipping to Hawaii. I did some searching and only found positive feedback about his services.

Deadbolt seems to be a really good deal. Awhile back iON was doing the same sort of thing for a LOT MORE money. Something I may look into. Could be nice for Auto-x. You can always use a little more boost a little earlier on in auto-x... especially with a WRX.

thats precisely why i bought mine. when i get arround to getting the thing tuned and dyno'd (it'll run fine with the stock ECU since the boost isn't increased, but there is more power if you go with STi injectors and a reflash) i'll post dyno charts. i can lug the engine in traffic, get on the gas in 2nd or 3rd at 1500rpm and the engine pulls and starts to make boost.

i have a vf39 that has been p&p'd on both sides as well as ceramic coated... i had pestered him for months prior to finally getting the vf39 and he has always been patient and answered email quickly. there was a slight snafu which caused some delays and jerry paid my shipping costs without me asking.... highly recommended from a consumer/business standpoint

unfortunately my turbo is sitting on a shelf looking pretty because i'm dealing with ecu tuning issues at the moment
