I have a 2003 Subaru WRX and I ordered the K&N air filter (part number 332232). It seems that the K&N air filter is a lot smaller than our stock filter and leaves room in the air box. Is this normal? I know i got the right part number since i tripled checked with K&N, performance store, and Pep Boys... I left the filter towards the fender since the intake seemed to be towards that as well. I really dont want engine problems due to this. Please HELP!!!

 

really? my k&n was very tight when i put it in the box. that number is right too.

 

maybe filter was misboxed? I would take it back to the shop and ask to see another of the same p/n. Take your stock filter with you. KN might be superseding part numbers so one filter fits numerous applications (I know a Nissan 16456V0100 filter will fit in the WRX air box), maybe KN rolled a bunch of applications into one??? I also know that some KN's come with foam adhesive gaskets to 'fill up space' in stock air box. Not a good idea if you ask me.

 

I had the same problem with my filter, same part #. It just seemed too small for the box. Never had any problems though.
