down pipe question

down pipe question

i just installed my down pipe and i was wondering if i need to thermal wrap it to keep my my engine cool? my friends told me that i should, to keep my trans and intercooler etc from heating up so somebody please help me!!!!!!!!

Not necessary, but a good idea. Some folks also wrap the manifolds (header) and the uppipe to retain heat, which keeps exhaust gas velocity high. Besides keeping the engine compartment cooler, it also cuts down on the heat that radiates up into the passenger compartment through the floor pan and firewall.

if you wrap it, theres a chance of rust developing, too.. but it really all depends on what parts you choose to go with.

No kidding about the heat, I was running as Sear Pt this weekend and after about 10 laps I thought I had left the heater on from the moring drive up. Instead of wrapping the dp I think I will add a sheet of heat shielding material to underside of the firewall/floor pan. Hopefully that would avoid corroding the dp.
