Thumbs up North Bay "DIRT DRIVE" for the hardcore in June

PART ONE OF PACE NOTES:

The route has been driven and it's looking good. Nearly 70 miles of off-road driving.

DATE: June 3rd, 2006

MEETING PLACE: Petaluma Fairgrounds parking lot.
TIME: 8:00am with a leave time of 8:15. be there early or miss out. we have a long day ahead of us.

ROUTE: (zero odometer before leaving)
1.) turn (right) onto Washington

2.) over the bridge turn (right) onto Hwy 101 North.
drive carefully we don't want tickets on the hwy stretch.

3.) at mileage (63.2 miles) you will enter Hopland. EVERYONE MUST RE-FUEL. There are two gas stations to choose from. We will have a restroom stop and i suggest you pick up something to snack on. Lunch will be served late in the day. Time of rollout will be at 9:45am.

4.) turn (right) onto "Route 175 east".

5.) at mileage (66.0 miles) turn (right) onto "Old Toll Rd."

6.) DIRT JUST AHEAD. a few miles into the road the Tarmac ends and it becomes dirt. There we will do our first stop. Where we will put people in order and send them out in (1 minute) intervals. That way nobody is eating other peoples dust and it's just safer. Everyone will have thier headlights on and if you see someone catching you, you MUST find a safe place to let them pass.
(2 miles into first stage the road has a very high center. Slow down or ride on side so not to "bottom out")

7.) at mileage (78.9 miles) Tarmac begins. We will stop to regroup.

8.) at this point "Old Toll Rd" has become "Highland Springs Rd"
The group will stay together for the transit protion of the drive.

9.) lost mileage... turn (right) onto "Bell Hill Rd."

10.) At end of road turn (right) onto "Route 29/175 south"

11.) turn (right) onto "Route 175" and take the time to (Zero Odometer)

12.) at mileage (3.0 miles) turn (left) onto "Red Hill Rd"

13.) DIRT RETURNS. at mileage (3.8 miles) turn (right) onto "Seigler Springs Rd". Here we will put people out on a 30 second intervels. This road has people living on it so "keep your speed under control."

14.) approx (6.8 miles) possibly sooner turn (left) onto "Demar Drive." Three quarters of the way on this road Tarmac returns. Regroup at the end.

15.) End of road turn (right) onto "Route 29"

16.) Drive several miles till you come to first 'stop light'. There you will turn (left) onto "Route 53 north" in Lower Lake.

17.) we will stop at KFC for restroom stop and some food (if needed).

PART TWO ON NEXT POST.....

PART TWO:

18.) at mileage (roughly 7.5 miles) turn (left) onto "Route 20"

19.) at mileage (roughly 10.8 miles) turn (right) onto "High Valley Rd."
(ZERO ODOMETER)

20.) DIRT RETURNS: at mileage (4.3 miles) Tarmac ends and we will roll together nearly 1/2 mile before stopping for Photos etc....Before being sent out in 1 minute intervals.

21.) between (8-10 mile point) watch for large Pot Holes!!!

22.) at mileage (12.2 miles) we stop for a re-group at end of road.

23.) turn (right) onto "Bartlett Springs Rd" in 1 minute intervals. Be aware of traffic from behind. please remember to pull over if you can see headlights catching up to you.

24.) at mileage (13.5 miles) Keep Right.

25.) at mileage (21.1 miles) stop and regroup at "One Lane Bridge" sign. We will hang there and talk for 15-20 minutes to see how everyone doing etc... and to pee in the bush'es.

26.) WARNING!!!! between (30 miles - 30.4 miles) you will see a house off to the left. BEWARE OF MASSIVE RUTS RUNNING ACROSS THE ROAD. VERY DEEP.

27.) at mileage (32.0 miles) watch for "fishing persons" on the right. you may gets some "haters" out of the group.

28.) at mileage (36.8 miles) so to a crawl! There is a river crossing that will love to kill your car. Please approach with care and drive slowly over trouble area. If need be we can have someone stop on the other side and direct cars over properly.

29.) at mileage (38.9 miles) we stop for a re-group and photos.

30.) at mileage (41.7 miles) turn (right) onto "Bear Valley Rd." This is a fast gravel road with plenty of 90 degree turns (both right & left) to pratice your drifting. very smooth.

31.) at mileage (56.0 miles) road ends. We will stop and wait for re-grouping. Time should be shorty after 1pm.

32.) turn (right) onto "Route 20 west" for the long transit period back to "Lower Lake" for lunch.

33.) at mileage (74.4 miles) turn (left) onto "Route 53"

34.) By 2pm - 2:30pm we should be back in Lower Lake for lunch. stop. eat refuel for trip home etc... I'll need to ask a local if the road "Big Canyon Rd" has been re-opened by then. Of not we'll have a boring drive ahead.

35.) depending on the road condition. WEe may have to trasit down "Route 29 south" till next turn.

36.) turn (right) just south of "Middletown" on "Western Mines Rd" Stop, re-group and (ZERO ODOMETER)

37.) DIRT RETURNS: at mileage (0.9 miles) for the last of our dirt. This is a short and sweet drive. the only way i like to travel in-and-out of Clear Lake.

38.) at mileage (3.2 miles) Tarmac starts.

39.) at mileage (8.3 miles) stop for photos. It's truely a beautiful area.

40.) at mileage (11.3 miles) road ends. Turn (left) onto "Route 128 south"

41.) at mileage (11.5 miles) turn (right) onto "Franz Valley Rd."

42.) at mileage (12.3 miles) keep right.

43.) at mileage (15.9 miles) keep right.

44.) at mileage (19.0 miles) road ends. Turn (right) onto "Mark West Springs/Porter Creek Rd"

45.) at mileage (19.7 miles) pull off road to say our goodbyes. this will be the end of the drive.
it leaves you several miles "east" of Hwy 101 just north of Santa Rosa. in the Windsor area. There will be a gas station very close to Hwy.

Let me know what you think.

Rich, you can tentatively pencil us (Greg and I) in for this one. I don't think we have any other commitments on either date.

Also, I crossposted this on the Forester forum.

I can do the 10th, but would be in a rental ... will not have replaced RallyWagon by then. Willing to be at the back of the pack.

Hey Rich,

I don't see a problem with the 3rd for me. I should have the new springs for the Baja on by then, woohoo. It would be nice to have a co-driver.......Max? Huck?
