Morning folks.

So I'm having a little problem with my car. My red engine oil light keeps turning on, slowly dimming on at first and get a little bit brighter but not all the way on. I have checked my motor oil on numerous occassions when I saw the light on. The oil only has 1700 miles on it since its' change and normally I change at every 5k. This has been going on and off for about the past two weeks or so. On sunday when driving back from the bay, the light came on and I checked the oil and it was down a quart, so I put in another quart and checked it the following morning and it was showing full on the dipstick. Last night the engine oil light dimmed on again and I checked this morning and it was still full. I have no idea what's going, but I'm guessing maybe a bad senor?

there are 2 engine oil lights, which one came on the red (pressure) or yellow (maint)?

*edit: If its the red, I have some bad news for you.

I had checked on friday before my drive to the bay and it was at half way point on the dipstick, so I left a new quart of oil in my car. When I was driving back from the bay on Sunday, I went to check on my drive home and that's when it was 1 quart low. I didn't think I would have lost half a quart in about no more than 200 mile drive.

Plus Subaru says it's ok/common to burn 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles which is total horse ****! Cause buring that much oil in such a short period of time is not ok.

see here (cause I'm too lazy to type it all out):
oil pickup tube failure thread - NASIOC

I've replaced so many of these now that ALL my subaru's get a KillerB replacement as their 1st mod.

Its a defect that subaru won't recall simply because it would probably put them out of business it would be so big.

I have to say this is very common among the new subarus, we have had people complain that they go through oil like that.

Would this be covered under the factory warranty?

will it be? that varies drastically.

Should it be? definitely.

step1: pull oil pan and inspect pick up tube.

Subaru knows about this issue. IF they say they don't they're either lying or are complete morons.

Pay attention to that light when you cold start the car. If it comes on even for a second, or flickers, that will confirm what I"m saying.
