my wife found ABC Glass in the phonebook and they were very prompt on repairing chips in her windshield...they came to her work and did it while she was there...good work, good price...was free for us IIRC...bill went to the insurance co.
i believe they're in ED County.

I'm still wondering if someone has had an 05 windshield replaced that was like the OEM 05 windshield (dot matrix stuff above mirror and no funky faded tint strip).

Find out if your insurance company will spring for the OEM replacement. The Subie glass costs about $400 more than the generic. State Farm OK'd the OEM replacement.
If you're interested, I'll post the name and phone number of the Davis place here after I get home this afternoon.
The guy I mentioned above did 2 windshields for me yesterday. Both cars had cracks in windshields for a while. Did a nice job in about an hour. Clean and clear, no scratches. I asked him about driver’s side window, he said he does replacement on both driver and passenger sides besides the front and back windshields. Also, you can ask him to check if he can get you a quote for a specific brand. He said if they make it for the car, he could get it.

Speedy is a chain outfit, but they did fine work. "For a location nearest you call 888 773 3398." They do mobile work and 24/7, too.

A WRX or STi(I) windshield replacement costs the same. It costs about $100 for the installation and about $200 for the generic glass. The OEM glass costs $630. Insane, isn't it?
The lowest price I've heard of for a generic windshield replacement (including installation) is $225, but that probably didn't include a new gasket seal (recommended). OEM includes a new gasket.
State Farm will provide OEM replacement parts for all repairs, but the policy holder has to ask them for OEM parts, first. I think it's that way for all insurance companies that do business in California.
