"by 4URABUS: After mulling it over, I think I'm just gonna send the disc brake kit back and put new drums/shoes/cylinders on it. I'm not happy with the fitment, not being able to use backing sheilds behind the rotors kinda sucks, and the disc brake installation would have put me in SM2 anyway." <-- from yesterdays daily..

damn thats a shame. would have been nice!

I have yet to compete in the Bug, so I don't want to be totally outclassed and not have a fighting chance at winning an event.

Besides, the Bug only weighs about a ton, so running disc brakes to hold back ~50hp is kinda overkill.
hahah yes, this is true.. right before i was getting ready to sell mine i was thinking about the porsche engine swap. there was a 72 for sale pretty cheap near me at the time (engine was almost new but the body was shot).

Happy Sunday morning all. I just realized this Sac section was here. I've been looking around to see where all the other Subi enthusiasts in the area post. This looks like the closest thing. Hehe

If you want to have any fun in that car, you need to go to SM2 or higher anyway. Stock fenders don't allow nearly enough tire and like you said, 50 hp... might not be so bad for rallycross but not what you want on tarmac. There's a guy up here in Reno with a Karmann Ghia- he managed to get 225s and a turbo on it and it's still a dog.
