Version refers to WRX STI's in the parlance you're thinking of (V3, V5, V8) so doesn't really apply to US cars before the V7/8, and even then, only to STi's., and even then, only to Japanese cars, since ours have different drvetrains (my '05 STi is most closely related to a V8 STi, but has a 2.5 instead of a 2.0 along with a host of other differences.)

You have a wagon, so it's a GF chassis, but 8 refers to the turbo motor, 6 would be a 2.5, and I believe yours would be a GF4 - it's the starting part of your VIN tag.
