Yeah that's true. I was glad I took my music class for one big reason: I was always a fan of Eric Clapton, but that class showed me how important early 20th century Blues and mid-century Reggae are to rock music. I still listen to some blues and reggae because I heard it in Walt's class.

Learning the roots of all current forms of popular music was cool.

My history of rock class was actually "History of The Beatles, oh yeah, and there were some black people who yelled a bunch in the 40s and 50s, then there was some acid done in the 60s and then this Frank Zappa guy played some stuff too, ok sweet".

Weaksauce. The Beatles were hugely influential and creative, but they did start off as a bubblegum pop boy band. Did they even mention Robert Johnson?

Yeah. You can trace the influence of almost all American rock, pop, soul, R&B, and country music back to him. I.e., current popular artist A was influenced by previous artist B, who was influenced by artist C and D and E blah blah blah back to Robert Johnson.

haha, i remember there was a day when our teacher told us to bring in a sample of the music we liked and that he would try to pick it apart and make sense of it, everyone brought in fifty cent, eminem, garth brooks or some ****

I brought him The Dillinger Escape Plan and laughed as he tried to pick a beat out of it!!!
