It's all about how you raise your child(ren) around guns.
Remove the mystique of a firearm and you remove the urge to handle it.
BTW how's the Mrs about allowing Jr to ride a bike?
Bikes kill more children than guns.
You can also point out how irresponsible she's being everytime she puts Jr into a car.

DBtuned parts express?
it's cus of kids...she's not comfortable with a gun in the house and I understand.
i don't have a ton, but all a kid needs is one.
i might think about Furley's pellet gun suggestion though.

i don't really care one way or another if they're in the house or not.
once we get a bigger house w/ an office or garage, i do plan to put them all in a safe.
it's not too much about the kids in the future, it's them while they're young (>5 y/o) in her mind.
if i bring them into the house, it will be with proper knowledge with our children.
but even w/ knowledge, it doesn't always equal wisdom.
i grew up w/ these guns in my dad's closet (the collection was left to me by my late grandfather).
and when i was a kid, even though we would go over gun safety and i knew how to handle them "properly," when my parents would leave me at home (~9-11 y/o) i would play fast draw, spin them on my finger, etc...
i know i was supposed to check them to see if they were unloaded and check the chamber to make sure there wasn't one there, but i'm 100% sure i didn't every time.
even when i was a teenager, i would show my buddies them and where they were. i knew how to handle them, but did they?
i had a friend that i used to hang with and we would get his dad's shotgun shells and try to fire them in a vise with a hammer and a nail, or throw them up in the air to see if we could get one to go off when it landed, or disassemble them and make "army grenades" with the blasting caps...both of us knew better, but we did it anyways.
knowing how kids are, even with proper education, still leaves a question of doubt in my head about them in my house.
now, IF and when i bring them into my house, they will be much more secure than my father EVER left them when i was growing up.
he just had them in his closet behind/under clothes.
ammo in them or close by and easily accessible.
my plan is to have a safe w/ locks on ALL guns inside said safe and rounds/clips kept separately locked. so if for some reason they DO get into the safe w/o permission they are not potentially dangerous.
