"Are you just picking random things in the room and saying you love them?"
so, Seagate vs Hitatchi for internal laptop hard drives...which is better and why? MGIA
Hitatchi $169
100GB
7200RPM
3 year warranty
Seagate $156
120GB
5400RPM
5 year warranty
so dispite the obvious difference in price/GB, what would a slower RPM mean in terms of working? programs slower to start up? Also, which is the better overall company?

**** Seagate. Worst service ever. Worst non-enterprise products (they've gone downhill) on the market right now. Stay with Hitachi or Fuji (heh) for laptop drives.

that will make it run amazing.

this post isnt meant to offend you. its merely a portal in which you understand that RAM will not make your computer run better. dont mirror your OS install over to your new drive. do a nice lil format reload(after backing up the Data/docs. NOT the programs and their crappy installs and ****ty file structure that was on teh old disk.
dont store **** on the 'root' of the drive. drop shiz into your my docs, atleast that way you can save it in the event that you didnt make a backup and your OS takes a crap.
/my opinions. some of them...not all. agree or disagree as you please. it will give me something to read when i wake up.
what kind of laptop do you have? processor? what OS? provide the wonders of SriC your configuration....what you use it for. what you are trying to get out of this... Or? are you just using it for pR0n and dont care about $$$ spent?
/bed.

its a MacBook with Mac OSX 10.4.8 with the stock 512MB of ram and 60GB hard drive. I'm using it for school right now and music stuff (some recording) and will be doing more photography and video editing later. I'm not looking for some speed demon, its just that with the 512 its pretty slow to ru programs and is annoyingly slow when switching between programs like Word and Firefox. I'm not really a computer guy, and I'm not looking to build the fastest computer out there....just something the runs smoother than what it does out of the box

the intel dual cores...or as the hip apple brand has them called 'core duo'.... in my experiences need AT least 1gig. my mini has 1gig(about to be 2), and the gf's MacBook has 1gig.
my mini struggles opening bits on wheels and remote desktop while ichat, msn, and firefox are open...along with the widgets i have open. plus.... it laggs out harder than my powerbook 12inch running the same programs. i have apple care and i dont really have the time or want to beat around with it, when i paid for something that i might as well use.
she does what would would be doing with your computer. 1gig was/is fine. she has the 120(?)gig HDD iirc.
A friend of mine upgraded his mini to an external boot 7200RPM firewire drive. to get some of that speed back. goto 123macmini.com and read somethings on the drives that will work/what they sell. i know that Macs are sorta picky. and to have someone that has done what you want to do...might save you some grief in the long run.
/personal experiences with apples. not to be taken as 'spoken word' or 'gospel' by any means. just things that i've come across, in dealing with Apple confusers.
-hope this helps...
Also, with tiger... just have apple mirror the drive over. my first post was if you were running a windows computer and were having issues with spyware and whathaveyou slowing your PC down. didnt mean to just jump on your post and attack you. Sorry if it looked like that.
