Texas arrests people for being drunk. In bars.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) - Texas has begun sending undercover agents into bars to arrest drinkers for being drunk, a spokeswoman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said on Wednesday.
The first sting operation was conducted recently in a Dallas suburb where agents infiltrated 36 bars and arrested 30 people for public intoxication, said the commission's Carolyn Beck.
Being in a bar does not exempt one from the state laws against public drunkenness, Beck said.
The goal, she said, was to detain drunks before they leave a bar and go do something dangerous like drive a car.
"We feel that the only way we're going to get at the drunk driving problem and the problem of people hurting each other while drunk is by crackdowns like this," she said.
"There are a lot of dangerous and stupid things people do when they're intoxicated, other than get behind the wheel of a car," Beck said. "People walk out into traffic and get run over, people jump off of balconies trying to reach a swimming pool and miss."
She said the sting operations would continue throughout the state.

Heh, here's a quandary. Where is it legal to get drunk? In your private residence/non-commercial property. Where can you get alcohol? Neither of these two places...

This is retarted. Bars are private property, how can they arrest anyone for public drunkeness? It is LEGAL in TX to drive with an open container. Hmmm... THAT might be a place to start their effort to reduce drunk driving.

I was just at a bar a little bit ago and we were discussing this. Alcohol is great for the gov't because they get to make lots of money taxing it, people pay for it, get taxed on the purchase (with their money that has already been taxed) and then the police officers get to arrest you for using it, and make lots of money on that as well. Amazing.

The fact that tinted window, a sticker, or gauges is probable cause enough to pull you over for illegal mods. Arresting you in the bar drinking=the new street racing modification. Everytime I hear of about someone being pulled over they have street racing mods. I was recently(today) pulled over in and asked to pop my hood. I was pulled over for front tint and a blow-off valve in Elk Grove. So after a quick look under my hood the occifer told me I could go, no ticket.
I should mention the fact that I drive a stock n/a audi
