It's all about diet. You basically try to eat and drink enough of the right stuff to fuel you through the ride. Today I started out with about 400 calories and about 60 carbs with a few glasses of water. On the ride, I had three powerbar gels (about 125 calories each), two cliff bars and drank nearly a gallon of water. Post-ride, I had a big *** burrito with whole black beans, chicken, cheese, guac, etc.
My body ripped through it though, and I was hungry less than two hours later
I'm not doing it to be some endurance athlete or something. I just like to ride my bike, and my fitness level is at the point where a 20 mile ride is fun but it's not as much of a challenge anymore and I want to ride longer. 20 miles is great after work, but not on Sunday
. Besides, we were doing 35+ down Hwy 49 between Cool and the Confluence - ripping through those 15mph corners and stuff. It was awesome. This BMW Mini tried to get away from us and it couldn't
. Then on the way out of Auburn I hit 46 mph. **** is fun but ****in scary.
Next week: 100+ in the Tour of Napa
