Holy crap that was a hard bike ride. We rode from Old Town Folsom, up Salmon Falls to 49 and the in to cool. Dropped down 49 to the confluence, rode up Old Foresthill Road, left on Foresthill Road and in to Auburn. Then rode over to Auburn/Folsom for the ride back (in a 25mph pace line). My legs..they is spent.

There was ash and embers down my alley, and even though my window was open I didn't hear anything until an hour or so after the fire trucks showed up, guess they didn't use their sirens .

At what point does it start to be destructive to the body? 63 miles is far to drive in my car.

It's all about diet. You basically try to eat and drink enough of the right stuff to fuel you through the ride. Today I started out with about 400 calories and about 60 carbs with a few glasses of water. On the ride, I had three powerbar gels (about 125 calories each), two cliff bars and drank nearly a gallon of water. Post-ride, I had a big *** burrito with whole black beans, chicken, cheese, guac, etc.

My body ripped through it though, and I was hungry less than two hours later I'm not doing it to be some endurance athlete or something. I just like to ride my bike, and my fitness level is at the point where a 20 mile ride is fun but it's not as much of a challenge anymore and I want to ride longer. 20 miles is great after work, but not on Sunday . Besides, we were doing 35+ down Hwy 49 between Cool and the Confluence - ripping through those 15mph corners and stuff. It was awesome. This BMW Mini tried to get away from us and it couldn't . Then on the way out of Auburn I hit 46 mph. **** is fun but ****in scary.

Next week: 100+ in the Tour of Napa
