can anyone give me a quick run down on what i need to do in order to sell a car? My previous cars were sold by my father but he's no longer here to help me so im not sure of the whole process? And also, do i need to have my car smogged before i sell it? It's an 04 sti. Any help appreciated.

Do you have a loan out on your car? If so, you're going to have to pay off your leinholder before they will release/transfer the title of the car to the buyer. It's a pain if your bank isn't local.

You would need to call your bank to figure out that part. I purchased a car private party a few years ago and the seller owed money on it. I was getting a loan for it. Here's how it went:

Seller came to my bank here in Sacramento.
My bank checked out the car, did the paperwork and funded the loan (yay payments!)
My bank first paid the sellers bank for the amount he owed (they called ahead) and cut the seller a check for the difference.
I went home in my shiny new car
