I think the diamond plate was a planed event...........
he had danger to the manifold and needed to cool the tanks, so he went for plan "ZZ", but it didn't work the way it was planed.
The diamond plate was supposed to fall completly off, to achive much needed wieght savings and cooling effects, for the last 1/2 mile
