need computer help asap

i have a compaq that started to crash on wake up today. i looked in the book and it said to do a system restore. i followed the directions to a T, and even though it said i wouldn't loose any files, they are gone.


any ideas how to get them back or am i SOL?

1) sounds like you are SOL.. it prolly formated the drive and resored to the factory settings

anyway... try seeing if for some reson the system restore created a new user account for you. ie, in "documents and settings" theres folder for all users, check there to see if your missing files are somewhere within

if that doesnt work, where exactly were the files locaTed?

Usually a system restore involves a format, i.e. all files deleted. A system recovery will often try to repair things and may leave files behind. The best way to find out is to use the "Search" option for a file name unique to you like "donkeypunch.mpg" or something else from the barnyard **** collection.

After having to rebuild all 3 of my computers for various reasons, I keep all of my important pictures, documents and quicken data on thumb/usb drives now using microsoft's memory card manager app.
