My HKS Carbon Ti got stolen at DBTuned Parking Lot >>>>MUST READ<<<<

Here's what happened....
I had 3 out of 4 Volks LE28 SE stolen on 12-17-09, in frt. of my house in E.G. I filed a police report, filed a claim w/ my insurance, called dealerships for estimate on new OEM rims b/c my insurance won't cover the volks.

I spoke w/ shop owner Paul through numerous conversations so I decided to roll w/ DBTuned. I slapped on 3 borrowed stock rims w/ my 1 volk still on my car, threw on lugnuts w/ OEM Mcguard LOCK NUTs and drop my car off at DBTuned on 12-22-09 to get some rims/tires put on the WRX. Along w/ rims/tires needed, the theives also damaged the rear left backing plate, so I needed that part and labor performed aswell. I drove fr. EG to Roseville, dropped off my car and left it to DBTuned hands as I searched for rims/tires on the internet.

I found the rims/tires I wanted off TireRack, Paul ordered the rims/tires on 01-04-10 and arrival time to the shop was next day either 01-04 or 01-05. I tried to touch base w/ Paul on those days but didn't get a hold of him.

Heres the story.....
I finally got a hold of him on 01-11-10 and he verbally said my car would be ready today 01-12-10 around noon. I called him today around 11am and he said my car wouldn't be ready til' tomorrow. I explained to him that I NEED my car... so just slapp on my rims/tires and i'll bring my car back for the work on the backing plate.

Conclusion......
I got to DBTuned, I stopped in frt. of the office door just a few steps fr. the shop area to zip up my sons jacket and was greeted w/ a shocked look that I was there fr. Paul. My cars on the lift, rims/tires already bolted, and GUESS WHATTTT.... YEAH MY HKS CARBON Ti was missing. Paul didn't pull me aside to tell me my TBE was stolen, he didn't call me back as he knew I was on my way to the shop to let me know my TBE was stolen. He says "Dude, look up," I said "what's up?" He's all " They stole ur TBE", .. I was RAGED. so..... what did he do... he throws on a Cobb tbe for me. WTF, I want my HKS Carbon Ti. So, another file to the P.D, and claim to my insurance. To top off the whole situation.. I was missing my McGuard Lock Nuts, and Paul Claims he just removed LugNuts. Now, why the hellllll would I not put my locknuts on after my rims just got jacked fr. me.. does it read RETARD on my M.F. forehead.. He then offered to buy me Lock Nuts, I refused, and wanted my OEM McGuard LOCK NUTS, so.. he pulls out Lock Nuts fr. an STi and says' he'll gladly give me these.

Did he charge you for the lock nuts and the Cobb exhaust?

<-- Semi-dbTuned fanboi, but everyone deserves a fair trial.

No flame suit needed.
And no, I did not charge him for the exhaust or the OEM locking nuts that were not present on his car or the labor to put the new wheels/tires on his car.

SoMz, I can understand you being pissed that you had your wheels stolen and more parts go missing. But I believe that Paul is trying to help you out. I can understand you being mad because the missing parts were not replaced with the same parts, I too really like the HKS Carbon Ti. As soon as HKS releases a Carbon Ti for my car, I will be one of the first to have it. But in the end, Paul used parts that have a higher value than the original parts.

Original parts;

McGard Lug Nuts: $199.99*
HKS Carbon Ti TBE: $1,107.45*

Total of missing parts: $1,307.44

Replacement parts;

STi Lug Nuts: $392.01*
Cobb Tuning TBE: $1,285.00*

Total of replacement parts: $1,677.01

That's a difference of $369.57

I mean come on dude. Other than your stuff being stolen/missing, what are you mad about?

*Values are online prices found using Google.

you sound like a whiny 5 year old girl.

and seriously, is it that much harder to type "from" instead of "fr." and "front" instead of "frt." i mean really, its a one key difference and it doesnt make you look like a complete retard. maybe you should stamp "retrd." on your forehead.

***I am in no way affiliated with DBtuned. I've never been to the shop, done business with them, or even spoken with them.***

I can see you're frustrated, but you need to take a deep breath, take a step back and take a good look at the situation.

-You got your **** stolen, twice. Sorry man, **** happens. Deal.
-Out of kindness, the guys at DBtuned offered some of their parts to you.
They're not obligated to do ****, and they even offered you higher end parts. The HKS hipower is a nice exhaust, but the Cobb is definitely higher end, and more expensive. They could've just given you some stock cbe or ****ty ebay exhaust lying around.

If anything, I expected this to be an DBtuned appreciation thread.
Props to Paul@DBtuned for not completely cussing your *** out. He responded to your stupid thread without making a big fuss out of it.

So I was there when all this went down. I was there when you called Paul telling him that you were already half way to the shop. From what I could tell, Paul seemed to be in a not so great mood from the time I arrived at the shop even before he spoke to you (prolly due to running a business and being super busy). But he dropped what he was doing and wanted to get your rims on in time for when you arrived.

He went out and got into your car and pulled it into the shop. I specifically asked Paul what all was done to your car because it was so loud. He responds saying that your AXLE BACK was gone (not the full TBE).

First thing Paul did was call your insurance to let them know what he has just discovered. Gets off the phone and continues to put on your new rims/tires. About 5mins later you roll up. What would be the point of calling you to tell you that your axle back was stolen when you were already on your way?

Yes I would be upset at the whole situations too, but you didnt have to act the way you did. Paul didnt have you give you the cobb axle back, but it helps you out for the time being.

I left shortly after you got upset and called your insurance.

No one is to blame besides the ppl who jacked your parts, its a ****ty thing to have happen to anyone.

DAMM.... Sounds like paul needs to start pulling cars into the shop... or build a fence on the side lot and put them back there with some video... sorry for your loss that sucks but at least he threw on a axle back so you can drive your car. btw those volks are beautiful!!!!

Are you sure the thieves that stole your wheels didn't steal the exhaust at the same time??? Are you and Paul certain it was stolen at the shop?

Unless DBTuned is running some sort of a chop shop I think he did the right thing and you should not complain.

It was stolen here, in the parking lot, of the shop. Along with some items from my car (broken grille).
As mentioned earlier, I immediately called the insurance company to inform them about the theft.
I did not call the customer as he was mere minutes away; maybe I should have.
I offered him the Cobb CBE until he can locate another CBE of his liking; offered to install this CBE for free when the car is back for further repairs.

The customer then asked about his locking lug nuts. I showed him the bag of twenty nuts that I had just removed from his car; some were oem lug nuts, some were splined "tuner" style nuts.
Customer claims he had lockers on his car, I say the car did not come with oem locking nuts.
Am I going to argue back and forth over lug nuts?

Wheel lock kit, p/n T3010YS010, costs a whooping $25 and my cost is $17.
Why would I jeopardize my business & reputation for 17 dollars?
Why would I make an already uncomfortable situation even more so for a lousy 17 dollars.

I offered him a total of $40 cash for a set of new nuts, which he declined.
We discussed it further and a mutual solution was arrived at; I gave him a set of my own locking lug nuts for free.

This is the first time this has happened in nearly five years of business....if you discount the first time that an i-club member was involved in stealing a set of Volks wheels that (I believe) were then unknowingly sold to STI Rush.

Building a fence would only make this complex look horrible; thieves are thieves and if they want your stuff, they'll take it.

That's why you have car insurance.

And speaking about car insurance....

That was the reason for the delay in finishing the car; the insurance company had yet to provide written authorization to replace the left rear backing plate that was damaged, which is about $800 worth of work.

No shop owner would do an $800 job w/o having prior authorization, as the insurance company could reject the additional claim and the shop be out the time and money.

Which brings me to another point; the insurance company never came out to look at the vehicle and relied on me to provide all of the necessary pictures, statements, etc that the damage was a cause of the wheels being stolen at the customer's house.

Nice, now I gotta do my job and the insurance company's job.
