We found the problem (support did anyway)..
Polyserve uses SAN fencing for the cluster. So, for example, if you've got a two node cluster and one side tanks, the cluster software disables the ports on the switch that were used by the dead system. To do this it uses SNMP SET commands to change the port status.
Well, over the weekend the SAN team upgraded the firmware on the two switches to which these systems connect. There's a known bug in the firmware that specifically effects SNMP SET commands, which is to say that they don't work. SO, when Polyserve was trying to start up and 'fence on' the ports, the SNMP SET commands didn't work, which means Polyserve couldn't access the SAN disks.
This explains why the OS was able to see the disk and not the clustering software. We're rolling back the firmware upgrade and rebooting the servers in a few. Hopefully that works :|
