Ahhhh.... no anything but drafting. I learned it in HS and have been doing it since. Unless you really like little nit-picky stuffs and fixing other peoples mistakes, its a horrible job. I'm the office pee-on.

it's just a step towards architecture. i really don't mind the nit picking too much. i was doing some drafting on an internship for an engineering company. i really liked it. i really enjoy the details. any chance your company is looking for an intern?

just realized your in reno. might be a little too far to commute.

I am in Reno. We are looking for help, but I think they want experienced people. There's also Sacramento office on Capital Blvd. I don't know if they are looking for help, but you can give it a shot. The company name is HMC Architects, go in dressed nice and drop off a resume, see if you can’t speak to the principle. Be ready to talk about your future goals and your experiences. I don’t know anyone in that office personally, so I don’t have any connections, but you can say that I referred you to them. My name is Desirea Adams in the Reno HMC office. We also have an office in San Jose and well as many other locations. Here’s the company website http://www.hmcarchitects.com/home/entry.htm

Drafting is a great way to pay for school if your company is flexible on the hours, but don’t get caught doing it for the long term.

If you want be an architect, then you need to put yourself in an area where you can go to school first, then find a job. Persueing Architectural drafting will not getting you your license. You need to attend an accredited school for 5-6 years and complete the program. There's no way around that unless you don't care about being NCARB certified. The closest accredited school to Sac is UC Berkeley. You might however, want to check if the local school you’re looking at has a 2-year transfer agreement with the accredited school of architecture.

If your thinking about getting your pre-reqs. out of the way, don't most school have pre-arch classes that are required to get into upper division courses and going the round-about way will significantly lengthen your process.

Trust me I know. I'm struggling with this right now. I want to be an architect, but I don't have my schooling done. I have to relocate to do it.

Just my 2 cents. PM me know if you want any information or have any questions.
