Red face A lesson to those who are single, engaged, or newly married...

"It is better to **** your wife off by telling her you spent money than to lie or TRY to hide something from her."

So... I bought some things that I probably shouldn't have and stored them in the "cat toilet garage" that my wife hasn't stepped foot in since we moved into the house 2+ years ago.

I (mistakenly) decided I would not tell the wife that I bought said items because she would be upset I spent the money. I decided I would tell her if I decided to keep them, otherwise I would sell them and make the money back and she would be none the wiser.

My wife and I have a VERY good relationship. This is the first time that I have ever tried to pull one over on her. I have no idea why I thought hiding it would be better than telling her. We are comfortable financially and the money I spent was not earmarked for any other purchase.

BAD MISTAKE.

Saturday, she thought she would be helpful while I was out at Home Depot and clean the cat litter box for the first time EVER...

I was putting up some new shelves in the living room.

"So I cleaned the cat litter today..."

"...see anything interesting?"

"When were you planning on telling me?"

"...I wasn't even sure I was going to keep them... well the seats at least."

"What do you mean 'the seats at least'. What else did you buy?"

...oops...

It just went downhill from there.

It ended with,

"Why did you think that I would be upset if you spent your OWN money?!@?!? Why did you think that LYING to me was a better idea."

And what could I possibly say to that? It was a question that I should have asked myself. I had no excuse for hiding my purchases from her and was forced to deliver the typical male repsonse in situations of this sort.

"I don't know, because I am a total idiot?"

At which my wife broke out laughing histerically.

"You are a f-ing idiot. Don't lie to me ever again." *big smile*

My wife rules.

ry-owned. the end.

So gentlemen (and ladies), just tell her (or him) that you bought something that you know you shouldn't have, but it's really important to you. If they find out you were trying to hide something from them, it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much worse. I expect my wife will give me a ribbing for this forever.

Lesson learned.

I

am

sorry.

You could always tell her that buying parts for your car is your way of coping with not getting enough sex.

don't fall for the trick i fell for... "honey, you can get those wheels and tires if we get another dog..." well, a few months later the wheels are long gone but teh damn dog is still there.

when it came to mods, i was always up front and told dawn about them before i did it. i also made sure i had about 20% extra around to buy her approval.

You should have sold the dog with the wheels.

Be careful, my engineer mind reads that as: I have spent more money on the STi than I have spent on hookers.

So, how much did you spend on hookers?
