If you guys have BofA, they just recently announced a pretty cool new program. It's called 'Keep the Change' and here's how it works:
You buy something with your BofA Visa Debit Card, say for $3.50. BofA rounds the charge up to $4.00, then takes the $.50 difference and drops it in your savings account. For the first three months, they'll match your contributions 100%
. Free money, here I come! No fees for the service and nothing to do but sign up at a local branch.
For people like me, who pretty much use their debit card nonstop, this could add up pretty quick. I'm in - just another way to plunk some money in to my savings account without thinking about it

Savings so simple your wallet won’t miss it.
Here’s how it works: every time you buy something with a Bank of America Visa® debit card, we’ll round up your purchase to the nearest dollar amount — and transfer the difference from your checking to your savings account. So you get to keep the change and grow your savings. What could be easier?
Save with everyday purchases, special purchases — all your purchases.
Using your Bank of America Visa® debit card is always a smart way to spend. The money comes directly out of your checking account with no charge to you for this service. And now with Keep the Change™, it’s even smarter. Because every bag of groceries, every coffee and every tank of gas adds up to more savings for you, wherever Visa® debit is accepted.
We’ll match, too.
For the first three months, we’ll match your Keep the Change savings at 100%. That means for every Keep the Change transfer, we’ll contribute the same amount to your account. And when the three months are over, we’ll continue contributing 5% a year, every year. To make it even easier to save. Our reward will be paid annually to your savings account.

I don't wanna sign up for any credit cards or bank accounts cause I might be purchasing a place pretty soon and I don't want to mess with my credit.

Wonder how that works if I am getting gas and I do 21 transactions to fill up.
~ $72 to fill up my tank
$3.43 rounds to $4.00 according to them. (click
21 seprate gas fills @ $3.43 each = $72.03
$0.57 cents per transaction
$0.57 * 21 = $11.97
I fill up every 2-3 days, assuming its every 3 days, thats 10 times a month, which means a total saving of $119.70 a month
That is just with gas alone, not counting all other purchases that I make.
ofcourse, to do 21 gas transactions would take a long time @ the pump.

You'll have to wait a year to get the money back no real biggie for most

BofA can lick my Oafishly huge *********.
My mom had an account with BofA for 30+ yrs.
Had her mortgage set up as e-trans every month.
After mom died, I close her account, after talking to the mortgage company & mailing in her payment.
Mortgage company informs me that they might submit a request for funds, but not to woryy if it "Bounces" as long as mailed money makes it in time.
I then close mom's BofA account.
The e-trans request is made.
BofA pays it...on a closed account.
Mortgage company receives two $170 payments.
BofA sends my deceased mom a notice that her account is overdrawn.
I go to BofA in Auburn & show the teller the timelime of events; the account was closed before the e-trans was made.
I offer to pay the $170, but tell her to "suck it" if she wants the $25 fee.
Yelling ensues.
Manager comes over, I tell her the same thing; BofA screwed up, but I'm willing to pay the $170, but she will have to "suck it" for the $25.
"Im sorry, you're gonna have to leave. You're rude. And if your mother doesn't pay the whole amount, we'll submit it to collections."
"**** you, how do expect a DEAD PERSON to pay for your **** up?!" I say, holding up a death cert for all the other customers to see.
That was over a year ago, & now mom owes $1200 for a $170 mortgage on a house she doesn't own.

They did something like that to me, but with a credit card. I applied, thought I got denied, then 6 months later I got a letter saying I owe payments. I call them.
Apparently it was SOMEHOW linked to my checking account as over draft protection. WTF!? Isn't that what my savings is for?
First time I call them they ask if I live in Elk Grove. I say No? I live in Winters....
So now it's been about a year account has been closed since January, they finally gave up with me and took my balance to zero.... After 11 months of stupid phone calls, thinking I had paid off the balance 3 TIMES!!!

I need to buy something for $0.01.
IT won't help me save since I have to transfer money from my saving to the checking so I can use my never used debit card, but you can't lose with free $250 even though you won't see it for a year.

Too bad BofAss will easily make $250 off of fees for those of us without direct deposit. Too bad though- I buy gas every day, and if it wasn't capped at $250, I could make $3-400 easily through that program.

Am I the only one reading this right OR is it just 4 in the morning and im reading it wrong lol...How I read it They aren't giving you free money... They are goign to CHARGE YOU 4 DOLLARS instead of 3.50, then they the extra 50 cents they charged you and move it to your savings for you free of charge, so basically they are HELPING you save money by taking a little money that you won't really notice out of your account at a time and putting it in savings, so then at the end of the year you are like oh **** I got some extra change to spend now because of it...
I don't see how they could give all 239048239048239048239048239048 costumers they have without loosing to much money, seriously for the first 3months u could run around buying something for 43 cents and get free money, that doesn't seem right at all.. My way of looking at it makes more sense to me
EDIT:
"Savings so simple your wallet won’t miss it."
I am 90% sure that they just round up the money and take it outa your checkings and move it to your savings, because they are helping you save so little at a time that "your wallet won't miss it" but then it all adds up in the end so then instead of 47 cents extra on that taco they just charged you, you now have 250 dollars in your savings... So basically the charged you the exact same amount for that taco but instead they moved 40 cents MORE from your checkings to your savings... This would be fine for the first 3 months, but then you are paying 5% more for that damn taco because you aren't good enough with your money to move the money into your savings yourself

US banks has a program similar to this. The rewards are deposited into the account I believe once a year the first part of november. It's called Checking that pays and it work for every signed credit transaction on the bank card. I think it is a 5% payback.
Beats nothing and it isn't BofA.
