THAT would be a first!![Big Grin](https://www.i-club.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
honestly, i dunno...it does sound like a virus if it restarts at start-up.
try slaving the drive and running a virus scan on it.
or possibly an error in the boot sector of the HD.
my wife's lappy tanked and it did that for a couple times then gave the blue-screen-of-death.
ended up having to get a new HD for it and slave the old HD in an external enclosure to get all the data off it.
I reformatted the old drive and left it in the external HD but she only uses it to transfer files from one computer to another now.

if so it maybe the HD.
is it less than 12 months old?
my wife's tanked at 54 weeks...2 bloody weeks after the 1 year warranty.
a new HD was only ~$75 w/ a USB external HD enclosure which was still cheaper than the $200+ price for the extended warranty plan.

it's out of warranty. it's been reliable so far.
i think i've had this problem before and was able to fix it, IIRC it was some kind of virus. with her machine i can't even get into it to do anything.
