IRL road course debut at Infineon Aug 26-28, 2005
I had lost interest in both IRL and the Champcar series because I don't like ovals-only series for open wheel race cars and the Champcars lost all of the name teams and drivers to run in IRL because of the Indy 500 and the sponsorship money.
August 26th - 28th is the road course debut for the Indy Racing League at Infineon Raceway (formerly Sears Point). Do these guys remember how to turn right and brake?
I will be ordering my tickets soon and I'm driving down on race day for the main event with my brother.

I'm planning on going to San Josa. I haven't decided on the IRL race yet. It's one of only two road course events (the other is Watkns Glen IIRC), so it would be nice to go check it out.

I'm going to pass on the Champcar race this year but I'll be watching for impressions of how the event went off and maybe I'll go next year. I'm just not sure how the spectating will be for this inaugural street course. I've only seen the Champcars (formerly CART/Indycars) at Laguna Seca back in the late '80s and early '90s so I'm sorta spoiled as far as being able to see the course from any vantage point and paddock access.
The San Jose Champcar event should be pretty exciting and also features great supporting events (not sure of their race event scheduling):

Toyota Atlantic Championship, Trans-Am Road Racing Series, United States Touring Car Championship and the Historic Stock Car Racing Series will contest races around the HP Pavilion and surrounding streets on the 1.3-mile, 10-turn San Jose Grand Prix circuit. There will also be a Formula Drift (Drifting) exhibition.

I think we are going to stay at my parent's house in Belmont. The CalTrain station is only a few minutes from them. We'll probably skip Friday, but we'll be there Saturday and Sunday for sure.
