I'm a bad driver

I never thought id be the guy, but yesterday, coming home from Davis, I was pulling onto I-5 and saw room to gun it. Ended up cutting some dude off pretty close, and almost rear ended the guy in front of me. Since then, I've literally havent went over the limit. I feel like I was put into check by this incident. My car is too fast for me!

What do you guys think?

Back then when I was young and the dinosaurs where alive, I did bunch of stupid stuff in my 98 Toyota avalon. It wasn't until I got my subaru and join iclub that I just slow down and think about my safety. Doesn't mean that we have a moment where we think it's ok and then look like the biggest idiot. It's moments like this that keep us in check. Glad no one is hurt and your ok. Don't beat yourself up.

Yea it happens. The difference between bad drivers and you is that you recognized your error and have corrected (at least for the time being) your habits.

Beaware of your surroundings. The thing that keeps me paranoid is that there is potentially a cop in every corner. With that in mind I try to keep my speed at the limit. With that always in mind you have an idea when and where you can speed.

I'm a horrible driver. I admit that everyday. It is really hard to slow down and think, especially when our cars are so fun!! I have faith for you, as I am the queen of speeding tickets but haven't had one in the wrx. Besides, going slower gives others a chance to gawk.

There's quick driving and there's stupid driving.

You can drive stupid and be speeding and infuriating everyone on the road and still not get anywhere quickly, or you could be smart but quick, thinking ahead and making calculated and methodical lane changes and judgement calls and run a much much lower risk of hurting yourself and others.

Onramps are fun though. Really fun. So much fun that even as a mostly slow driver I usually gun it coming out of those. That short burst of speed from about 20-30 to 65 is enough to put a big grin on my face. Just gotta make sure no cars are in the way that's all.

Enjoy your wrx

If you are getting tickets, you arent driving fast enough.

Jk. Definitely, just keep it on the tracks. Autox isnt even that much. And if you can afford to mod up your ride, you can afford track time

Agreed! I actually got hassled by a CHP bike cop a few months back for speeding up too fast:

- Madison Ave onramp getting on westbound 80
- Gun it at the bottom of the turn and start safely merging (while getting up to speed)
- Got up to 75ish and slowed down with flow of traffic, and a bike cop comes up out of nowhere and rides my *** for 3 miles. Never lights me up but I did apologize profusely in my mirror to him.

I thought about this one later and I don't think I did anything illegal anyway....? Maybe the car got up to speed faster than he liked?? Thoughts?

Maybe because you were up to 75mph? Usually people hit the freeway and go, he was expecting it... But to his disappoint.

If he never lit you up then you didn't do anything wrong enough to warrant even a warning. Or he was just a nice cop, which is ULTRA RARE these days. He just wanted to intimidate you so you would cool it.

Just my opinion.

That's happened to me before. After giving me a hard time (they actually stopped me) they let me go, but in this day and age that's becoming a thing of the past.

Most cops now are working for their jobs and will absolutely give you an infraction for anything. My dad got one for like 5 or less over. I'm not making this up. I couldn't believe it.
