Let me start this off y saying that I know it really doens't belong here but you guys are real people not just some loser punks. It's more of my thoughts on the subject with no answers needed. Just me thinking out loud.

With the exhaust I want 3" all the way back with a bell mouth downpipe. I'm leaning towards a catted downpipe like the Helix GDA-EX005.

When it comes to cat-backs I'm looking for rankings on decibels (both with and without optional silencers) and fitment.
I know that some of these taper from 3" to the stock size and others don't. That should be included in the data.
I basicly want a TBE with one hi-flow cat, an extra O2 bung (for wideband goodness). If I ranked exhaust loudness on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd put the stock STi at a 3-1/2. I'm looking for a 5. I don't care if it comes out the back at an angle or not. I want audible pleasure without the bad taste of the po-po attention.

Now, Engine Management.
There have got to be some pros and cons for the different systems. Some areas that I am concerened about are:
Method of boost control (open loop/closed loop, stock solenoid, etc)
Passing smog (visual, tailpipe, and future OBDII ECM polling)
Ease of installation and maintenance (cutting wires, altering/loading maps)
Map switching (91 octane daily driver, 94+ track day, anti-theft/valet modes)
Extra features like CEL flashing during knock
My vehicles are my hobbies. Whenever I can do something myself I will go that route. I know that no off the shelf mass produced tune will squeeze every last drop of performance out of my car. But I think I should get a good chunk (50-90%) of the net gain with off the shelf with little downtime or the need for me to, god forbid, hand the keys over to someone without me sitting in the car. :shivers:
Nate sounds like he knows his stuff. And I'm sure I'd be in capable hands. I just want to understand every system before I jump in.
P.S. I was a very big fan of Hondata. I almost got an RSX so I could get the latest version. Looking back I know I did the right thing.
