I guess you could say the Abyss had some unconfortable moments (the whole breathing liquid made me a little nervous).
Out of all of the "scary" SciFi flicks, I would have to agree with Tim that Event Horizon was one of the most frightening. I saw it in the theater and I jumped out of my seat more than once.

The original Alien movie was also good for a few screams.

Filmmakers have really lost the ability to truly frighten audiences. Blood and gore is not what scares people - it's the anticipation that builds up in your own mind as you watch the film. That's why a movie like the original Psycho can still scare someone who hasn't seen it before. Hitchcock was a master and some of the current Horror Hacks could learn from his style.

nightmare on elm street scared the begeesus out of me! but i think that the last movie to give me nightmares and make me pee my pants was the orignal texas chainsaw massacre! i was like 12 when i saw it on HBO the first and only time and i had dreams about that movie for like 3 years! it was the only movie that has scared me since! most of the movies now are either disgusting or just stupid, although ring 2 wasn't to bad considering it was a sequel to a not so good ring.

childs play scared me to cause i watched that one when i was 4! then my mom (not knowing i saw the movie) baught me a my buddy doll! i was terrified of that thing, so me and my cuz (he watched the movie with me) always would try to kill the my buddy doll!

...........ah good times!

When I was younger Gremlins freakin' scared me so I couldn't sleep. I kept thinking that every knock or creak was a gremlin.

goes back to the ghost thing... and for some reason they did the kind of thing that creeps me out the most... that's when you look into the mirror and nothing is there... then you look away and look back and there is something standing behind you... for some reason ever since I was a little kid I have had that fear that i would look away and there would be a ghost behind me

The hills have eyes... you thought it was good? I thought it was incredibly boring and disturbing.. There was no build up to me, because frankly I didn't give a **** about any of the characters... they all had no personality. I'm also glad the hot younger sister made it to the end...

BUt like when the dad died i was like w/e he was a *****... Gay hippie dies... another *****... Mom... Annoying as ****... It's hard to like a movie when you don't care who outa the main characters die, I was rooting on the zombie things when they where after the youngest boy... The only one i didn't want to die was the hot younger girl LOL

By "pretty good" I mean it was as I expected, disturbing with a lot of gore. No boobies though...
