Angry I am the official i-club record holder for busted windshields

Well... it's not a title that I happily claim, but it appears that I reign supreme in the wonderful world of windshield replacement. I think I cursed myself by replying to that thread a week or two ago where I detailed my record. The official Guiness Book of World Records number is now 10 windshields in 5 years. My last 3 cars haven't made it with their windshields intact for even 2 months... the STi lasted 6 weeks. Damn Caltrans and their ****ty patchwork roads! Sorry, had to rant and I feel justified in doing so... and slightly better also. Now I'm going to look around on the internet for one of those free glass replacement deals... and lower my comprehensive deductible on my insurance. I'm sick of shelling out cash every 6 months! That's perfectly good mod money thrown out the window... I mean windshield, I guess.

I've got a crack too, it's been there since I bought the car. My hood and bumper are littered with dozens of freeway rock chips. For some reason subarus are magnets for flying objects.

I'm convinced of the whole magnet theory also... if we could only find a way to reverse the magnetic field or something.

Maybe it has something to do with the seats, I get shocked every time I get out of my car.

blame it on GM!

every GM work truck i've seen has a cracked windshield.

my wife's father-in-law had a new (99) Chevy full size, he didn't go 3 months w/o having a crack from one side to the other for the course of the 5 years he had it.
My dad's GMC Sierra fullsize...same thing. about every 6 months or so he's got a windshield wide crack in it.

and my subie has the same thing.
i blame it on suppliers...go w/ PPG glass on the replace...many times those "free replacement" places use off brands that just are not good qaulity glass.

and if you find a place in El Dorado County that does PPG glass and "no deductible" replacement, PLEASE PM me with the info...i have to get mine redone soon!

Not to derail my own thread, but wouldn't your "wife's father-in-law" be your dad? I think it would've been a lot easier to say that LOL...

...and I'll let you know if I come up with anything spectacular to fix our situations.

Just got a quote through my insurance company from Safelite... just over $900! I figured I'd be shelling out all of my $500 deductible... damn!

That's what I'd heard so when the crack in my windshield started to spread I paid to have it replaced with PPG a couple of years ago. Just a few months ago, some guy in his beater mini-pickup merged abruptly on the freeway and immediately kicked up a small rock that chipped my PPG windshield. PPG may be better quality than off-brands but it's still glass.

I paid $30 to get the chip 'repaired' by filling it with epoxy from one of those guys that hangs out with his company van near a Costco every other week.
