I "acquired" a stolen laptop, help me use it!
Hey, long story short. Somehow a Sony Vaio VGN-FS780/W hopped right into my hands. I cannot log in because the username put a password, i cannot even see the screen clearly, its one of the 15x5 widescreen with a very expensive looking lcd. The reason i am not able to see clearly is because the backlight of the lcd screen is being an ***. It turns on for a quick second then turns off, the screen is completely dark, i tried pressing the blue Fn + (sun^) button but it wont light up.
Pro's= Free (still dont know how i got it), Very expensive laptop (researched, is 2k worth), love how it looks, its a sony!
Con's= Back light dont like me, no password.
Questions= What can i do?, Is the screen busted?, If i reformatt the harddrive, will i be able to see the screen again?
Last comments= Please help!!!

Piece of **** for receiving stolen property, and talking about it on a public forum. i hope the cops light you up.
and during the holidays. i bet someone is looking for it. hopefully the last owner of the laptop installed some sort of security software.

Actually true story is, the laptop was laying on the table at a local school with no backpacks nor person next to it. Looked like what it seems to be a bottle of water opened and faced horizontally on the keyboard. It was soaked and left behind at a local school. It will not charge no more. I will tell the truth and nothing but the truth, i asked my friend to vulture the laptop for 5 mins, if no one comes, grab it and il fix it. Couple days later, the laptop dried, sitting here, never logged in. Every serial number (came) scratched off. The bar code is also scratched.
True story.
Last note : sorry me and my friend took it, if it were to be there any longer i know someone else would of taken it. happy now?

not cool at all. Karma's a biotch homie.
its gonna come back to you, especially with the serial numbers/barcode scratched off. no matter if it was done before you got to it, its gonna look like you did it.

Wow, that's pretty effed up dude. You only left it for 5 minutes??? How do you know the dude didn't just run to get a paper towel to clean up his mess. It'd be the right thing to take it back to the school or call Sony.
If the backlight is intermittent, it's almost certainly a hardware issue that Sony would have to fix. So either way, they'll figure out you're not the owner.

contacted sony and gave them the serial code from 'my computer + right click + properties' and they found out who she was. i asked for info but sony said 'confidential'. i only asked because i wanted to deliver it to her instead of paying shipping towards sony. $14 +$5 insurance because it is a bad thing. i should of never done it, im catholic. =( shame on me. anyways i put a stickie on the laptop with my email and number. she called me and said "thank you for reporting it to sony, i forgot it because i was in a rush to go home" she hasent recieved it yet but its in the process of sony fixing it. anybody know her? name: jessica smith (mmm white girl).
