it was a high efficancy motor...
got like 35mpg...
the same thing all the other automakers are using variable valve timing for today, they were just ahead of the game.
the VX was only avail in the hatchback in the 92-95 bodystyle but it was released late in 93.
i believe it was also offered with a CVT transmission.
the EX did have a VTEC type engine, but it was a 1.6L SOHC motor that wasn't anything spectacular. the Del Sol had the DOHC VTEC engine in 94-97. and the 94 Integra GS-R and later the infamous Typer-R.
okay enough hondas.......that thing at the top must fall to a spike strip!

Also more realistically, aside from the 1990 NSX and some Integras, I don't think there were any VTEC Hondas before about 1995 or '96 in the US.
As far as Toyotas w/ VTEC...
VTEC is a registered trademark of Honda, I'm pretty sure they don't let Toyota use it. Toyota calls their variable valve timing VVT-i (Variable Valve Timine with Intellegence), and while it's similar technology, it's technically not VTEC.
Besides, if you want to get into VTEC w/ other names, there's also AVCS (Subaru) VANOS (BMW), VarioCam (Porsche), MIVEC (Mistubishi), VVL (Nissan), and I'm sure a bunch more, but I don't know the names used by the domestics.

maybe i should've included "[/sacrasm]" at the end of my post... i was joking about the fact that all ricer hondas and even some ricer toyotas have VTEC stickers on them.
