Easy. We're only kidding around. Would you pay a masseuse $20 then rub your own shoulders? No.

So take your gf to Soga's or The Plumshire Inn, or Osaka Sushi. There are plenty of nice places to go in Davis.

Wow I would have thought more people would know what this was..well, wikipedia to the rescue!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_pot

It's more of a cultural thing I guess. I use to do this at home with my folks and I always thought it was fun. You guys should try it. It's something else besides the same old thing. My gf and I hit the restaurants around time all the time and we're getting kinda bored of it. She's never gone to one of tehse and I thought it'd be fun to go with her. I'm sure a lot of you love cooking but hate the prepping and cleaning, so this takes care of that.

I guess sacramento and bay area are world's apart, I can't find a restaurant that does this.

Oh yeah we've been together for like 5 years so there's no need to worry about impressing her with fancy dinners. this is just a fun experience. I might drive to richmond since they have one there.

To get back on topic, if you want to try the Japanese style, I think there is a Japanese restaurant around Arden that does Shabu-Shabu. I dunno how good/bad it is, cause I've never actually eaten there.

EDIT:

Looks like google isn't picking up any hits for Hot Pot though.

Well, not relevant matches.

I know the OP; he's a student at UC Davis, and probably lives in a dorm. Without a kitchen. Or any cooking utensils whatsoever.

What do you recommend; that he rent a fancy hotel room with a kitchenette for one night?

Just remember, quarter-turns.

There is also a Mongolian BBQ place in Davis (used to be at least) that was good, if that's an OK substitute for driving to Richmond.

It's just that we haven't been completely overrun with asians like the BA has yet

I remember going to a place you speak of in milpitas. Had a grill and a broth bowl you could cook your food with. I remember it tasting like tobacco spit.
