Having owned volvo's before (early 90's [pre-ford]), there were no irregular (non oil change, etc) costs that I incurred. If you're looking for a Volvo, I would recommend a used S60 R or V70 R.
Same opinion from the guys at volvo when my mom was looking at their SUV.

"Keep your ('99) V70XC".

Seriously, though, how hard is it just to stay on the pump? Why do people insist on getting back in their cars for the 30 seconds it takes to fill the tank?

The pre-ford volvo's just feel so much more solid in general and more stable on the road. I drove a new XC70 my mom got as a loaner when her car was in for service, and it felt like a Taurus compared to her '99.

Yeah, I loved my 92 240. That thing was a TANK, and I proved it with a 65 mph roll over.... Used to have pics on an old Volvo forum that has since closed. Think of how boxy they were, after the crash it was almost 90 degree angles, and I walked away with a bruise.

true dual on a V10 = bad idea. the firing order has something to do with it too, but still.
