It would get them thinking about be more efficient. Maybe instead of corporate jets and luxurious parties, they might just tone down how much their buying and spending. But again, there is always someone that is gonna know how to make $$ and not really care, that benefits this spending tax system.

Anyways...back to the police situation.

If one were to analyze the data concerning response rates per areas, demographics, etc, regarding just who uses the police, one could determine which areas to tax more.

If one were so inclined...

The fact that the police department says it'll end up taking calls instead of sending people out to burglaries, etc., or small things like theft, that is scary. Won't even get a response by an officer in person, just a person calling and getting the report.

We have government to protect the people. If we are allowed to protect our properties and ourselves and loved ones, there are sure going to be an increase in the # of deaths without enforcement there to ENFORCE.

it's already like that... just because an officer shows up and takes a statement when your rims are ripped off, or whatever the circumstance, doesn't mean they're going to all CSI on that ****. they take a statement and file a report as a formality so you can file it with your insurance. if they do this by phone it's not different.

<- has had cars broken into, property vandalized, and even been shot at. never once has a sac county sheriff deputy actually responded in person.

You do understand that you, me, people in general, have no right to police protection.

probly not, this is America, all the corporations shelter income offshore so **** them.

EDIT
also, your assuming that having a sales tax does away with refunds. keep existing deductions in place and make people save their receipts (see: accountability) and process their refund at the end of the year. interest on accounts, child deductions, etc, would still need to be account for. your not changing anything but the revenue source... expenditure vs income.

peeps would also lose dependent deductions and tax credits, but I personally don't care because i get effed out of those anyway.

and think of the millions of people who earn a living preparing and processing tax returns, whatever will they do when they're out of a job?
But mortgage interest tax deductions would be irrelevant if there were no income tax and only a flat sales tax for spending. The deduction you're talking about is applied to your income tax, so if there were no income tax, it wouldn't be a consideration. Check out http://www.fairtax.org for an explanation of how this would impact the "middle class" - like many of us here.
